Yes from Arizona. I'd bet they do anything to add more draft capital, not to mention Jarventie

The desperation of ridding Zaitsev's contract is huge for Ottawa, too.

Idk how I'd feel about dealing Jarventie to move Zaitsev. Zaitsev needs to go, but it's a pretty manageable buyout. Lyubushkin is solid, but I don't like him as a top 4 guy.
csick and sensonfire liked this.

I think Zaitsev + Tychonich + Tampa 2nd should be enough

I don't like Zaitsev as a top 4 guy either. I'd rather suffer through one year of Lyubushkin than another 3 years of Zaitsev. Worse case scenario, JBD or Thomson come up.

That could work, too.

One also has to wonder where Jarventie fits long term? Left side includes Tkachuk, Stutzle (for now unless he moves to the C), Formenton and Greig (unless he moves to center). Paul's emerged as a decent top 6 guy in a pinch and wonderful top 9 forward. Does Roby move to RW? Bath, Brown, Jarventie, Sokolov?

Who cares where he fits long term?

We have to start looking at players like ASSETS. And not like Dorion did with Duclair, Balcers, Logan Brown and now Erik Brannstrom, etc

If you don't have a plan for a player, trade him while he has value.

I don't think trading Jarventie and a 2nd to get Lyubushkin would be the best way to maximize your assets, even if getting rid of Zaitsev

I'd like this proposal if the player in return would be better than Lyubushkin

I feel as though Zaitsev brings down any value you get back regardless of who's involved. I just thought Lyubushkin was a decent stop gap/similar player and only for 1 year so if doesn't work, oh well. That and Arizona has cap space and is recouping assets.

I just think the cap space and roster spot moving forward for Ottawa is a little more important than a 2nd round pick and a prospect.

If it was a 2nd and a 3rd ok, but Jarventie is not just a "prospect"... He was a high 2nd round pick in a very good draft and his stock even rose since being drafted. He is still young and very raw but this guy has first line potential. So you never know... never trade guys with very high upside until you know they won't reach it

Or at least if you do, put that prospect in a package for a significant player
