Leafs easily decline. They will want a first and a young high-end prospect

Why would the leafs accept that? that doesnt make them better now, and they cant swap those picks for an upgrade.

Better than having him walk in the offseason

No, but i mean is, if he were to get traded, it would be for upgrades, not futures.

Rielly is a game changer on any team's blue line. He's the type of player that moves the needle, which will cost a lot to get

With the top offensive dman getting in the 9 million avg on a long term contract. Plus having to sign Campbell and Sandin to new contracts. The Leafs only have 12 million how will the Leafs resign Rielly. 7 million will be the bare minimum but I don't see that working out. He is going to Hamilton money. Get the best reward now or lose him for nothing.

That would be the logical thing to do - Salo has been NHL ready for over a year now

The Leafs don't seem like they can win now with Rielly either

You are still missing what I am saying. This doesn't help the leafs NOW. If Rielly were to get traded, it would be for a piece that can help them win now, like a Lindholm in ANA, something along those lines. It wouldnt be for futures as Dubas will 99% be let go if they cant get past the 1st rd

I agree, which is why I think Rielly will be the one traded out of TOR, not Marner. But again, it wont be for futures

Ok what about a second and Dylan Strome . He can fit at center or the wing.

Nobody trade a high-end prospect for a rental
That would be just dumb

Ok then trade one of Marner, Matthews, Nylander or Tavares so you can afford an upgrade.

Then Rielly will join Hyman, Barrie, Gardiner, Hainsey, Van Riemsdyk, Bozak, Anderson, Komarov, as Leaf players that were kept on as "own rentals" and lost for no return of assets. (I am not a Leaf fan, so maybe i am missing players, or some of those players were dealt, but thats a pretty good list...) As a Habs fan, Montreal not dealing Danault and Tatar after our lose to Philly was a huge mistake.

I think very differently about this tbh. I'm not panicking with the Leafs yet. It's been frustrating yes, but they are too talented to let this continue sliding. PIT has been through stuff like this multiple times and they always are great. However, if this continues to slide, I believe Rielly will be the first one traded as kind of their "wake up slap", not the core 4, and again, he will be traded for something that can help now, not future as this may be Dubas' last season. (Btw, out of that whole list, Hyman was the only one worth keeping, and even still, there were massive concerns over him with his injury history)

Also, I think MTL is in the position they are in now BECAUSE they lost Danault. Suzuki has to do all the heavy lifting and he doesn't have the safety net of Danault to play the harder matchups. Plus Ducharme was an awful choice for HC. He really isn't good imo.

Montreal is in this position because Weber is basically retired, Price is gone indefinitely, Danault and Kotkaniemi are gone with only Dvorak to replace both. Edmundson is also away, but should be back soon. They are a playoff team that can't win regular season games. No argument there. Ducharme sucks.

Hyman might be the only one worth keeping, my point was the entire list was lost for No Return. That's bad asset management, especially if Dubas is going to pay 1st to trade Marleau away, and 1st for a Foligno rental. Leafs have been in "win now" mode for so long, they dont have much to show for it, and need to hope their 4-5 "home run" signings pan out every summer. I just think the $40M on 4 forwards experiment failed, at least on the 2 that dont show up when it matters.
