No seriously, I’ve seen a lot of people say the franchise should lose draft picks as part of the league punishment. Can someone give a reason as to why draft picks specifically need to be targeted? I agree the fine was a bit low, but there are reasons why it may be like that.

The Seth Jones contract extension is actually part of the punishment and will be announced by the league tomorrow; i mean that's got to be the reason he was signed for that much right?

You don’t lose draft picks, but every year for the next eight years, Jones’ cap hit goes up by $1M.

    Still probably wouldn’t be enough.

Based on the way his play is declining I think that is essentially the same thing

On a separate note my friend, you might want to change your user name after the report today and Bowman's involvement

What would be the price on Murphy in the offseason?

I might be wrong but I think 2 mil is the maximum amount a team is allowed to be fined by the NHL CBA? If true Its definitely too low a cost, but theres not really a magic number that makes it okay anyways.

Given that they just gave him an extension, and it's a good number for what he provides, doubt he would be traded but who knows. Starts with a first for sure though

Canucks would have to send cap back, likely Myers or Hamonic.

Hamonic + Klimovich + 1st 2023 for Murphy as the base for a deal?

    1. Agree we should not be losing picks. Punish the indivuals but the team as a whole doesn't deserve that
    2. Not saying the lotto is rigged, but I realllyyyy doubt we win a lotto after this is all i'm gonna say

Doesn't really make sense speculating as it's so unlikely Murphy is moved. Jones though, think everyone is all ears on!

Yeah fair enough. You don't move players after signing them. I guess maybe a new GM could come in and want to clean house, but he could just as likely hold on to him.

If you retain 3M on Jones the Canucks would probably be interested.

Ouch, $3M for 7 years! He's definitely desirable at $3M less and therefore would take a haul. I think he's honestly about $2M overpaid, $3M though and a lot of teams would be all over it.

Retaining for 8 years after this year lol.

I would expect Jones to improve after more than like 5 games with a new team. The team is very new this year for everyone. Toews, Dach, Jones and Fleury are all important guys and it can sometimes take a while for everyone to settle into their roles. Strictly talking about the on ice performance, from the outside it seems like it's a bit of an overreaction. It's been bad but nothing good comes from drastic moves based on a 5 game sample size.

Yeah I agree with that in part. The Hawks will figure things out and not be dead last in the league but there is certainly reason to suspect he coach is part of the problem. With Bowman gone, the coach is likely on a short leash over the coming 10 to 15 games. If they only win a few, he's likely out as well. Bowman, as we all know, was terrible at bringing the right people into the organization from players to coaches.

Caps say no, this move gives them no space to sign Samsonov, Vanacek, or Sprong.
