I don't think MIN would be very happy at all with that trade with Greenway much younger, RFA and having just put up a similar point total to a lot of 2nd liners

I mean hey they gave goligoski 5M$ so 😐

Maybe they're overvaluing old D rn

But then again the suter buyout 🤔

I dunno what to believe

Where would Greenway shoot in on a Washington ram that’s deep w wingers. Ovechkin Mantha Wilson Oshie ? Is a guy that would play bottom 6 with giving up our best overall defenseman? Imo capitals pass.

Kuzy is worth way way more than Trouba…Does Trouba even has positive trade value w his terrible contact? Kuzy might be the most underrated player in this site

It should be obvious why Goligoski was offered $5m: they had an immediate hole to plug and couldn't risk getting outbid by another team. On a 1 year deal for a team that had the cap space, it's perfectly fine.

Caps lost out hard. Kuz is a 1C, Trouba is a good not great defensemen and we are stacked on the right side as is.

Orlov is a top pairing defensemen and you're trading him for a middle 6 winger? Ooof

As a capital fan on this site… here’s my take away

1) Orlov is grossly underrated as a player bc people either don’t bother educate themselves on his skill or bc they only know Carlson. Orlov is easily our best defenseman all around. MF will be our 2nd best reallyreally soon

2) People think Kuzy is RyJo or Duchene. Realistically he’s still an elite level center that can rack up points but people see him as a “risk” bc of 3years ago? People aren’t worried about RL being a drunk anymore but Kuzy is risky.

3) for one of …if not the best team in the last decade Washington seems to be one of the teams people have very little knowledge about. Guys like Orlov Eller get overshadowed and people assume they have way less value you than they actually do…Dowd is also a guy who doesn’t get enough credit.

Agree with all of this. People especially don't know how good Orlov is, even Cap fans who for some reason think he's bad and always trying to trade him.

Kuznetsov is tied for 9th in points, this year so far.

Greenway is tied for 15th in points on Minnesota.

Orlov is tied for 21st in points by a defenseman.

Trouba is tied for 79th in points by a defenseman.

Kuznetsov for free.

Lafreniere for taking Trouba. smile

If we're being serious, add Strome and a 1st for Kuznetsov, and then dump Schultz into the Trouba trade, and retain enough on Trouba that the Caps don't lose their RFAs next summer.

What trouba trade, laf to dump trouba?????? Hes got a big contract but hes still a solid top 4 RHD lmao.

And theres no way youre getting retention on trouba as well.

You really have a hard time gauging trade value.

Yeah. Probably. It's hard stuff.

But remember, or read back above, that this isn't a conversation about what the Rangers would take, only about what the Caps would accept. Carlson is good at 1RD. Schultz has filled in as a 1RD when Letang was injured, and his defense has improved since then. Jensen plays 2nd pair really well with Orlov. Van Riemsdyk has three points in six games playing his off side this year.

Teams that might give Trouba positive value would be teams that have room for a top four RHD: Arizona, Buffalo, Vancouver, Toronto, etc.

Im not saying trouba has positive value (bc he doesnt) but chris drury would have to be drugged to give up laf to move him.

He's kinda in the OEL boat for value. Retained with some money back, he might get something. But definitely not as a straight up asset.

Exactly. (Now if you think about it, it cost arizona garland to move oel even with retention. That being said trouba has more trade value than oel did).

That's what I thought you were saying with the trade.

I think for the Caps, the damage of Kuznetsov's party picture has been done. Now he's their best shot to set Ovechkin up to break Gretzky's record. He's top ten in the league in points. He and the coach seem to get along now, and he's being played in roles that maximize his strengths, rather than exposing his weaknesses. Kuznetsov has strong positive value in Washington.

OEL got traded for three cap dumps and a pick that wasn't necessarily enough to cover those cap dumps, if it was going to any team besides Arizona this year. Arizona might be shooting for the floor, so the front loading on the guys they got could make them worth having around, there, if nobody else wants them at their current cap hits. Take money out of the picture and OEL's trade value might have been, like, Juolevi? But Vancouver wound up in cap trouble. WSH has five RFAs upcoming, and I disagree that they want to buy out Hagelin.

Look man! Laf is a franschise talent that is only 19 years old. Obviously you can't compare hims value with Kuzy at the end of it. From a rags perspective that is never happening. I think Schneider is a good young talent that can take a top 6 role. You get more youth injected and all of that. Rags would have to add a 1st aswell that you then flip for something. At the end of the day as I said Kuzy has been great and I don't know why you would trade him unless Lapierre can step up and take a 2C role behind Backstrom.
