That’s not something Ottawa should do tho. Having Tkachuk and Marner both paid a lot isn’t a recipe for success. And that 2022 1st will be high

Because Tkachuk is getting way more than his production is worth, it’s important to keep Batherson as a steal contract to balance them out. That way on average both are around 6.5 even though Batherson will probably be a 60+ pt winger

I don't think it'll take too long for Tkachuk's production to match the dollars he makes. If Ottawa wanted him long term, they had to give him a little extra. I'm sure that contract will end up being pretty fair in the long run.

Batherson on the other hand, absolutely has the potential to be a real steal.

Batherson is more than half the player Marner is at less than half the price. He's a way better value piece, and Ottawa has no business trading him.
