That won't get it done. If they do trade Tkachuk, it will be for young upside players (Kyrou, Thomas, Perunovich, etc). An injury prone Tarasenko for 2 years and a few picks doesn't help Calgary's future.

STL fans need to understand that much like Eichel, his value around the league isn't as high as you think due to his injury concerns.

Counterpoint, Flames fans should understand that there is limited to no leverage for them in negotiating about Tkachuk. If CGY chooses to consciously risk Tkachuk hitting a UFA deal then so be it, but he's already voiced his displeasure and did so a couple of times over the summer. His whole family drives an impossible bargain, Keith did back in the day, and Brady as an RFA didn't get a deal until the 11th hour before the season. ALSO he's a rental because of he only has a year left on his deal. The Flames have very little trade leverage because most teams feel like they'll be able to negotiate with Matthew Tkachuk on the open market in the summer. Tarasenko for 1.5 years, plus THREE picks is a whole lot better than losing him to Free Agency.

Fair point, but they're not going to lose him to free agency next year, cause he's an RFA (with Arb rights) this year. He'll probably cost the same as Brady to sign long term (though a hold out IMO is unavoidable, cause that's what the Tkachuk family does). The Flames still have full control over him. There's no pressure on their side.

He is not a rental. He is an RFA.
