Good win for the Leafs against the winless Blackhawks team. The fact that the Leafs got outplayed until the third period worries me. Mitch Marner is not the answer

If he's not the solution in TOR, why would he be in COL?

Uh, if I'm the Islanders and I have the cap space to make a move for Rielly, and all it takes is a late 1st and late 3rd, it'd be absolutely foolish not to accept that. That's basically the same return that David F*ckin' Savard got at the deadline last year.

yup, i'm an islander fan and i'd take rielly for that. fits exactly what the team needs right now.

Don't need to trade Holl and Engvall.

Marner is a cold commodity right now so everyone here thinks their second liners are more precious than him. Trades an easy win for the Avs but they may not consider it given the context with the rest of their roster.

I don't know about trading Rielly, either.

I love the whole "Not the solution" narrative. And no, I'm not saying that Colorado is the fit, mainly due to cap space, but there was this guy, back in 2015, who was the last super high profile winger that the Leafs had...He "wasn't the solution", was apparently "Lazy", wasn't a "winner", lacked "Grit", and definitely wasn't the type of player you win a cup with.

Now that player has a couple of Stanley cup rings that he won back to back after he was moved, all while scoring around a point per game, and the Leafs are left with: $1.2 mil/year in retention that they're still paying today, and Rodion Amirov, the mid 1st round pick that was acquired later. Nobody else.

Trading Marner would be exceptionally dumb, especially if it's for a pending UFA and a dman (who is good, but not the level of player that should be the only return with term that you're getting when you trade a player of Marner's caliber).

If Marner was available, teams would acquire. People in ACGM act like their teams are above expensive players and guys on cold streaks but in reality you've got GM's tripping over the ottoman trying to get Ristolanien and Jones, and letting their Calder nominees go.

So Leafs should let Rielly walk for nothing, just like Hyman? Hopefully we can get a 6th round pick this time in a sign and trade. With a straight face, out of all the Leafs teams we experienced, how confident are you that this team can win a playoff round? Do you see this current team beating one of Florida, Boston, and Tampa in a best of 7 series?

Marner is a talented player on a cold Leafs team. He will go back to way he was with a new team

Teams in need of a 1RW, yes. Teams with a Mikko Rantanen, no. And this is especially true if they need to give up a really good contract that extends for 5 more seasons after this one.

Marner will have lots of suitors, but the Avs won't be one of them.

There are more than one player available at the TDL, and a rental offensive dman in a Trotz system isn't at the top of their list of needs

I wouldnt. Id much rather not pay for a guy who trotz will hate (bc of his defense or lack of it) and play salo who in this system will probably be just as valuable as rielly with no acquisition cost and a much lower cap hit.
