Im going to laugh at the freakout on here when he nets a 1st round pick. He was just behind hedman in TOI for the last playoffs and is exactly what every team looks for in a playoff reinforcement.

Quoting this statement but it's a response to others about Chiarot's value. Let's remember folks that at last year's trade deadline, David Savard netted CBJ a 1st and 3rd round picks while also having a higher cap hit than Chiarot does. Any hockey fan that's followed the NHL the last few years can't argue the fact that Chiarot is by far a superior defenseman than Savard and as already pointed out in this thread, absolutely built for the playoffs. Let's also point that on most teams, Savard is a third pair dman, which his what he was used for in Tampa last year. In a scenario where MTL retains 50% than ships him to a broker team that retains 50% on that remaining amount, Chiarot will count as an $850k cap hit for the last month of the season. My early betting favorite to land Chiarot is the Florida Panthers.
