Name change and Thoughts about Kane and Toews

Description
For the name changing part of this post I’ll make it quick so I don’t get banished to the forums. For the thoughts on Kane and Toews see the trades below.

This account, formerly known as Stan_Bowman, now holds the username Kyle_Davidson. To be honest I’m not a huge fan of the name, but over the past couple of days/weeks I’ve become somewhat disillusioned with the franchise including it’s players and management. For that reason I didn’t know what to rename this account, and I didn’t want it’s name to be non-hockey related. Eventually I ended up on continuing the tradition of stealing the identity of the person currently in the GM position for the organization (after all this is Armchair-GM). I apologize for making the most obvious/uncreative choice in the new username, but I hope the picture makes up for that in some way.

As for the ACGM part of this ACGM post, the hawks cleaned house in a big way firing the guys from 2010. Now I think it’s time for them to truly commit to a rebuild of the on ice product. Lost in all of the serious stuff from the past two days this team is still winless and they are traveling to play two undefeated teams in Carolina and STL. Something obviously isn’t working and I’ve seen enough of this team that I can confidently say they are going nowhere fast despite the rare flash of competence. The way I see it, this team is giving a top 3 pick to CBJ either this year or next and we can’t change that fact. Despite this we should begin a sell off ASAP and maximize our futures while we can. IMO the only untouchable in the ORG should be future captains Alex DeBrincat and Kirby Dach. The veterans should be traded when possible and retained salary should be no issue.
Trades
1.
CHI
  1. Lapierre, Hendrix
  2. 2022 1st round pick (WSH)
  3. 2023 1st round pick (WSH)
Additional Details:
I don’t want to say I lost a lot of respect for Kane with his comments yesterday, but I was very disappointed. I have wonders about if the organization will look to distance themselves from the 2010 team by not offering Kane and Toews extensions. To avoid that awkwardness altogether I think it’s best that we trade both before that happens. Since Kane is still a premier player, and we have no reason to believe he is a bad person, he should bring in a hefty return especially at 50% retained.
WSH
  1. Gustafsson, Erik
  2. Kane, Patrick ($5,250,000 retained)
2.
CHI
  1. Georgiev, Alexandar
  2. Kravtsov, Vitali
  3. 2022 1st round pick (NYR)
Additional Details:
I was very disappointed in Toews's comments yesterday as well. I noticed that both Kane and Toews had not yet read the report, so maybe they don't understand the full scope of what happened. At least, I hope that's the case. However, I genuinely believe that what he said, out of ignorance or not, was very bad and a lot of people are now questioning his ability as a leader. Watching this two speak yesterday was pretty tough, as I grew up watching and "Idolizing" (for lack of a better term) this team. I think Toews still has value left after this though, so to help get rid of 2010, maybe it's best to move him.
NYR
  1. Nylander, Alexander
  2. Subban, Malcolm
  3. Toews, Jonathan ($5,250,000 retained)
  4. 2022 3rd round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
The first-round draft pick is protected and the third-round pick going back is the lowest the hawks own.
3.
CHI
  1. 2022 2nd round pick (OTT)
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (OTT)
4.
CHI
  1. Yamamoto, Kailer
  2. 2022 1st round pick (EDM)

5.

This team does not deserve a swift and successful rebuild. They need to suffer a few years first.

I’d wait til the offseason for Toews and Kane since you can’t retain more than 3 salaries. Probably do Fleury and de haan retained this tdl. Toews, Kane’s, and TJ in the offseason 50% retained. Might be able to get more for them, especially Kane when teams have more cap space.

Being a Blackhawks fan these past couple of years has been rough, and we don't even have our first-rounder this year. The fanbase is already showing our discontent via attendance at the UC and I think this is just the beginning of it. I think firing the people responsible (around the league needs to come next) is a good start, but I'm not sure where it should go from there. I heard a lot of things, Stripping players of a Stanley Cup, taking away draft capital, IMO those types of things only punish the fans as the Blackhawks already made their money for the 2010 cup.

I forgot about the other retained salary we had, ignore that trade then.

Outside the OTT trade the other ones are fair
Strome value is like a 3rd round pick, nothing more

If Strome's value was a third-round pick don't you think he would have been traded by now?

Nah, I don’t see which team wanting a guy being healthy scratch for the Hawks. The team at the bottom are tanking so they don’t want too get better (Ex : MTL)

Caps pass, Lapierre is a big part of their future and if I'm the Caps I wouldn't want to go anywhere near that situation right now. FInally, while the Caps have space now, Backstrom returning would put them 5 Million over and take up more space in the offseason that they need to resign VV, Samsonov, and Sprong.

Name change is good

As for a possible name change i'm not a fan. Not only would doing it now be an obvious empty gesture for PR, but many don't actually find it offensive, so it seems like an unnecessary change.

He changed his name. It would be like you changing "NoVaSpartan" That's what he meant.

Penguins are too financially hamstrung to make that move with no salary going the other way. Currently a little over $100K in available space.

The situation is more complicated then “he’s a healthy scratch on a bad team”. I could get into the nitty gritty of it, but I’m not sure it would change your opinion of Strome anyways.

I don’t think toews really has value, even at 50% retained. After sitting a year, teams will need to see him play well for a while.

I get that, and it's not the fans fault, but unless/until the NHL does a lot more, no one is going to feel satisfied.

AZ lost a 2nd and a 1st for running off-book workouts with prospects, and that is a franchise that has only known suffering and failure. NJ got fined $3M and lost a 1st and 3rd for trying to skirt the cap with Illya Kovalchuk's contract, albeit it was right when they were a perpetual playoff team. In both of these situations, you could fairly say "don't punish the players/ fans," but the NHL still did.

CHI, the 4th most valuable team in the NHL, got fined $2m...and nothing else. Bowman was not only still with the team, but had gotten promoted. He should have been fired, but he was given the chance to resign. It's likely only a matter of time until some organization brings him on in another role. Quenneville and KC will likely get nothing more than a stern talking to, and be forced to sign off on some pre-written PR apology, "we must do better" yadda yadda, because why would FLA and WPG fire or meaningfully suspend them now?

I know the way CHI has been jerked around these past few years, but they also have three Cups to show for it, and the execs and coaches who rode that wave the longest were also the ones at the heart of everything that happened.

Honestly not trying to stir something...I think everyone is disappointed in how this has been handled. To say the goddamn least.

But man...this was really, really poorly handled. By CHI, and now by the NHL.

P.S. Dig the name change, and the photo rules.
