Help Caulfield gain confidence

Created by: MTLaveragefan

Description
OK... CC is not feeling it right now...

Kid is good, but too much in his head right now. He needs to go dominate the AHL, then comeback HOT as hell.

Give McNiven a chance.

I want to chance the line set-up

I want two bruiser lines. Bring up Pezzetta, the kid in on fire in the AHL.

Anderson, doesn't really benefit from playing with High end talent... His chances come off the rush, but he can't get out of the zone playing with Drouin and Dvorak.

Get some good defensive players will good battles, and he will be able to pinch a little more. and finally get those chances off the rush. He needs to play big boy hockey where you cycle the puck. He can't do the fancy stuff.

I want the third and fourth line to break the opposing team's back. Make them hurt, wear them down.

Caufield needs to play opposite of Anderson or Gallagher. Somebody on his line that draws defenders and creates holes for him to step into.
That's not going to happen while Petry is our only legitimate threat from the point either, as the opposition can just drop their blue line coverage.
Right now, consider his play as part of his development. He's used to having the puck and being able to create his own chances. He has to learn to let it go and set up to create opportunities without the puck on his stick.
Patience is necessary, but he could be put into a better position to succeed.

Yes, but the NHL is not the league to do that. In the AHL, the coach main's task is to develop players, not necessarily winning at all cost. In the NHL winning is more important than developing a player.

because of that, young player don't hone their best asset, they adapt to a playstyle that will keep them in the league... but not necessarily dominate the league.

i agree with this for probably 9 out of 10 prospects. But i have watched every game this season and i dont see Caufield changing anything to remain in the lineup he continues to play his game, has had several great looks, continues to make plays in the defensive zone even though he is undersized because he has a good motor on his back checking. I dont see what he has to prove in the AHL or how that will help him other then potentialyl further deepen the hole he is currently in. He has shown he can produce in the nhl and more importantly in key playoff moments, i would say in this instance showing confidence in him is more important. its just a matter of time till he gets his first of the season and then it will open the fllood gates. the team as a whole has had a horrendous start but looking like it may be turning around, hopefully, and that will take a lot of weight of his shoulders.

I agree with leaving players in the AHL for a suitable period of time, but they also have to be challenged in order to develop.
He wasn't in the AHL long enough to determine if it was a challenge for him, so a stint in the minors wouldn't be the worst thing. He showed enough promise to deserve a trial this season though, and it's hard to gauge his performance in light of the entire team's struggles.

I'd give him another dozen games or so before deciding. In the meantime I'd have him on the left wing so he can pull the trigger quicker and get him used to making quicker decisions with moving the puck instead of trying to carry it.

If the team is able to work out the kinks he'll get his opportunities. If not, it's better for him to work on those elements of his game in the AHL, while the Habs are trying to figure things out. Plug him back in to a functioning team instead of letting him tread water on a dysfunctional one.

Exactly... and in the mean time, a guy like Pezzetta can help spark the team night after night.

I mean that’s Montréal for ya. People would always complain about Pacioretty being on a slump and he’d still end up with 30+ goals at the end of the year. People need to understand that no one scores at a consistent rate, and goal scorers are going to go through peaks and valleys in their production.
