Term is a little iffy, but the AAV is great for Toronto's #1. Well done ****

Kinda scary, but at least we're not losing more assets to free agency.

The depth for next year is absolutely shot though

And Jack is probably gone too now

That's a pretty reasonable contract, especially considering what other dmen are getting recently. That's a nice deal.

I gotta say, I was not expecting this. The deal is fair compared to what he would have got on the open market, but a little surprised considering he is kinda an offensive guy.
Definitely love his personality and commitment to Toronto. Hopefully he can live up to this one.

Honestly was expecting a lot worse considering the defenceman market over the off-season.

I don't know how you let Jack walk.. Mrazek is at best a bad 1B with injury concerns. Not someone you want as your #1

One of Dubas' better contracts. He could have got $9M with a different team

Good deal, Rielly is your 1 D, and he could've asked for Nurse money

Good signing overall but maybe not great for the team, will be hard to give out contracts with 4 players making about 50% of the cap.

Money’s where it should have been on many of the recent defensemen signings.

With other Dmen getting almost 10 for similar production to Rielly there's no way anyone can say no. Leafs keep their #1 D which would've been a gaping hole if he walked

Zero chance Campbell is gone lol....
Move Kerfoot if you absolutely need to. You're not losing your starting goalie because you're short 1-2 mill.

Not complaining about this. Rielly's been through this moron team's ups and downs over the years, moreso than anyone else on the roster, and I would've been really upset had he up and left.

Could've gotten more but I'm happy he took a reasonable AAV.

I'd rather Rielly at 9.5 than Jones at 7.5.... Man Chicago really ****ed that up.

I really don't like the term. Giving an 8 year deal to a player this age is a bad idea to me.

I don't see how this is a smart use of limited cap space for this team. He's an unbelievably skilled player, but it's a hell of a lot to pay for a guy who arguably takes away more value defensively than he brings offensively. Things are gonna be really tight, and I don't think it's smart to prioritize this over leaving your cap space to sign your starting goalie.

I like the deal in isolation. It's a good aav with the market of the last 6 months, and more or less the lower end of what I've been hoping for the last 2 years (7-8.5 mil). Term is not terrible at 28 at start of contract (27 now). He's not 31.

In isolation I'd give this contract a b+, almost an a-

My issue as a Leafs fan is it doubles down (triples down, quadruples down?) On our core when I would have rather kept the flexibility at this point to pivot a bit if another failure...

BAD MOVE from TML.

High salary players are the problem. Depth is the solution.

Not the other way around.

I can't wait for TML next playoffs blowout.!
