Kyle Dubas is horrible at handling cap space, and if they miss the playoffs this year he needs to be on the hot seat

Its tight but its actually not as bad as people make it out to be. Thankfully we got Brandon Pridham the guy who made the cap and its rules on our team.

Next year they got slightly over 7.2 mill now that said they need to sign 5 players to get to the minimum needed

Now who would those 5 players need to be

Well if we look at the team next year (? are empty spots)

We got

Bunting-Matthews-Nylander
Kerfoot-Tavares-Marner
Ritchie-Kampf- ?
Simmonds-?-?

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
?-Dermott

Mrazek
?

Sandin, Campbell, Kase will be filling in 3 of those which leaves the 4c and 4RW open. Will get to extras later

Based on projections and reports got a feeling Kerfoot will be moved his 3.5mill will be added to our 7.2mill giving us 10.7mill to spend

K so now for extensions

Using comparable rn I see the following

Campbell signs 4.5mill x 3 years (Bernier 4.25mill x 2 years and Freddie 4.5x2 years used)
Sandin 1.55 mill x 2 years (Vallimaki deal)
Kase still early but I got a feeling 1.45mill x 3 yrs (Tolvanen deal) --> now theres always the chance he just does not get a QA due to either not performing well or getting hurt

And the remaining 3 spots will be filled in by Anderson (750k) probs Amadio (750k) and maybe even Ho-Sang (750k)

Now as for who replaces Kerfoot got to wait and see as its still super early for that.

Kerfoot probably.

As his contract after the SB is paid makes him easier to move. As he will only be owed 750k in actual dollars and many teams around the league will be wanting to save actual money

Trade to get what? You need the be a better team and not trade away depth... And you don't have big contracts leaving anytime soon

There are so many teams at the cap and you don't need to be trading assets for cap space. Need it for playoff runs or better depth

Sure but you continue to bleed depth... This team doesn't seem to be setting itself up for success. Just stagnation

Trading depth isn't a path for success. Leafs should have signed Hyman and let Rielly walk

they dont have to bleed depth, there are other players who are better who are cheaper or on an expiring contract that can be retained they can target

Ok.... How do you retain when you can only pay them 900k? If you can sign better players for less why do other teams what your players? Why don't they sign them for free.... You make no sense

D is far more important than the bottom 6. Move Holl and spend that money on the bottom 6. Can't let top players walk and sign bloated deals for worse players in the name of "depth"

Lol so what happened with Hyman? He added something so different to this team. Rielly isn't even a top 30 D man in the NHL....

Just seems this team has too many holes and no money to fill it until Matthews leaves

You solve that with a Marner trade. He should've been traded in the offseason since they keep the stacked top 6 in place. However, take Rielly off that D core and it's AHL caliber

But who takes Marner and what are you taking back or adding to make it. That cap hit is too big

Retain players. Do as they get better you pay them more, but you can't afford that so you let them leave or walk ....

Your ideas make no sense that's why you are confused
