I am sick of all these wilson to the leafs trades, they are all stupid and are not going to happen. Washington is not trading wilson unless someone overpays to get him. They wouldn't even do marner 50% retained for wilson.

Buffalo wouldn't give up their first this year for Marner. Washington, on the other hand, might just be forced to accept a deal this good. Not that Toronto would ever offer a package like this, because that's god awful for them to do.

Yep. I was thinking three firsts and three recent firsts for Wilson, and then Schultz for Amadio and cap space.

The last three years, if he could have played 82 games, he was on pace for 93, 99, and 95 points. His remaining salary averages out to just 6.18M per year over four years.

If I were the Sabres I'd think about it, Marner is overpaid but he is a very good player, and while I thought the Sabres were going to be the worst in the NHL it looks now like they might have to win the lottery to get a top pick, I could see them finishing between 6-12 still good prospects but not for sure franchise players and the Florida pick will probably be in the high 20s at least. I think people way over value draft picks and prospects.

Yeah after thinking about it I'd do it but the Leafs would have to retain 930,001 and the Buffalo pick is top 1 protected.

Every day on here there's a Leafs trade for Wilson. Every day, that trade puts WSH over the cap, makes them worse, and asks for a 1st round pick. But this post is the one you call a joke? Great. Thanks for your thoughtful feedback.

Don’t care the caps aren’t rebuilding they aren’t gonna give away Tom Wilson, there are no players like him

Yeah. I think it's probably Matthews or nothing. And even then, maybe it's just nothing.

With how well that top line of Ovechkin, Kuznetsov, and Wilson is playing, there's no reason to rebuild. With how little other teams' fans seem to value Ovechkin or Kuznetsov, even if this offer came in for Wilson, the Caps could not get enough back for their other stars to justify rebuilding. So they end up keeping Ovechkin and Kuzentsov together without the 1RW who helps them play their best. It's a good deal on paper, but it isn't right for the team.

I think the biggest part of the value from Tor on this one might be Sandin, and the Caps just have too many LHD prospects to know if he'd get to play for them.

Schultz is a better power play QB than Rielly. Schultz is worth Sandin and a 1st at the deadline, if the Caps were rebuilding.

Wilson is tied for 1st in assists among right wings this year. He doesn't have a power play point yet, but with Backstrom and Oshie both injured, he's going to get more power play time. He could get more than a point a game for the next week or so, and then he'll likely go back to his usual role of just forechecking and getting the puck out to Ovechkin and Kuznetsov at even strength, with a little bit of penalty killing.

I think Wilson is worth more than Amirov and two 1sts, even if the Caps were rebuilding.

Are Amadio and Liljegren big enough sweeteners to get a non-rebuilding team to give up two good two-way players? Most of the Caps fans commenting here said no, already.

I think it might take Matthews.

To simplify: he's valuable as a playmaker, a puck possession player who can help out on any line, a penalty killer, and a net-front guy on the power play who is good at screening goalies and agitating defensemen. Does he still finish checks and defend teammates from agitators? Yes. But those aren't the main reasons half of the Leafs fans on this board want to trade for him. Those aren't the reasons he was a top-20 pick. That's not why the Caps pay him $5M a year. He's a well-rounded player, and his next contract will be closer to 6 or 7 million, with more term, in Washington.

Since you haven't read any of the above conversation, here's another Caps fan's response:

Quoting: Icedragon4405

Right. Leaving aside that the above package is worth a lot more than Marner, this week, Wilson is an important part of the Capitals and is not likely to get traded.

Is it possible the Leafs pass on Schultz and just want Wilson, midseason? I don't know. Make an offer. But I think Schultz helps Toronto's power play, and he's become a pretty good defenseman these days.
