No. The NHL ruled that he only deserves a suspension of 21 games. Now I'm sure all owners and the NHL executive wish they could terminate his contract. But I imagine the labour lawyers knew they would never win in court as now, gambling is considered an "illness." If Kane had shown he had bet on San Jose game, maybe the suspension would have been lengthened or his contract terminated.

I remember the habs putting Kassian on the players assistance program due to substance abuse for that year we traded for him.
I wonder if San Jose could tell him to go through the player assistance program to deal with his gambling issues etc. He might not want to but maybe that could allow him to come out a better man, more in control of his finances & less dramatic. Might be easier to trade after that

That Richards termination IMO had a lot more to do with the confiscation of drugs at the border. I thought the drugs included pain killers (I'm not sure about coke). Again we never know, but Richards probably could have said the Kings had been supplying him "questionable " medicines for years. Hs termination, Richards might have paid all his money due, and the league just asked him to "go away" and keep your mouth shut.

I’m a die hard sharks fan and I’m a huge fan of Hertl, but man, 8 years at $9 mil aav will come back to haunt the sharks like all their other long contracts are already. Too long and too much. I would want to resign him around $7.5 mil aav for at most 5 years.

Wonder if he'll keep playing in Europe/KHL if he can't land an NHL gig, seems like a guy that would think he's above playing over there.

He'll get that and more in free agency, and he gets to choose his destination. If he really wants to stay, maybe he'll sign that for 8 years.

I really can’t see him making more than $9 mil, Ive thought that he would make $8.5 mil aav on the market after last season. I don’t think signing him long term, 7 or 8 years, is a good idea for any team with his knee injury history. He’s going to decline very fast once he loses his legs and he’s already not a fast player.

$9M is a stretch due to the flat cap. The term will be where players can make up for it. If you look at it like 9/9/8/8/7/7/6/6 it works out to $7.5M x 8. Though if you bring it closer to 10/10/9/9/7/7/4/4, he has better trade value at the end where you might look to move him.
