No, I would seriously consider it as a Leaf. Sure Gaudreau is gone next summer, but then their is 9m X 3 to spend without Marner.

Not a lot of logic here, Johnny would resign with Calgary and for cheaper than Marner, he wont resign with Toronto though

If the retention is their, it makes his contract fine and his value goes to his skill value which is way higher then that

You really can't forgive Marner eh.

Think your bias is seriously impairing your judgement when it comes to Marner.

I think in a flat cap league, Marner is not worth his 11m. By this post, Leafs get Gaudreau and some cap space and next year it's 9m to spend elsewhere without Marner. I kinda think it's a fair trade, not against Marner bias at all. Gee, I hope the Leafs keep Marner at right point on the PP, He has been really good there before, and can really add value to the team.

Not anti Marner....but I do think the Leafs (if they were wise) could spend his cap space better. I think trade proposed is fair, that's why I think it's a valid suggestion.

You're saying in other threads expose Marner to Seattle to lose him for nothing, meaning you think he's litterally worth nothing but capspace.

You obviously can't even see your bias at this point.

Again. 24 yo 90 pt player who gets selke votes are better investments than soon to be broken down Z.Hymans or have a year or 2 left in them M.Granlunds.

It's not as if they are getting two other 24 top 6 forwards instead of him.

This isn't hard to figure out.

If he's traded, and that a big IF, its to a small market team looking for a franchise player for one or two guys that are at most 27 years old and some decent picks/prospects. I don't care if he's overpaid by 1.5m, he still has value.

You're obsessed with capspace, please point out how many top 6 fwds have been signed to $5m plus long term deals that have been successful for more than 3 years.

Cause it's not hard to find the ones that look terrible after 2 or 3 years.

Instead of worrying about my so called bias you should look at the trade proposed. Gaudreau for one year and an bottom end NHL Dman for Marner this year, plus some cap space this year. IMO it's a reasonable deal for this year. Then the Leafs get 9m in cap space for three year with Gaudreau and Marner gone starting next season. So I don't think the trade proposal was unreasonable at all. So please
don't call bias against Marner at my part. Maybe you can't see past your pro Marner bias and you think he's worth 11m or 9m. Now I admit reasonable people could argue the merits of Marner's value, but calling me bias against Marner...that's just foolish.
And yes, I did float the idea of exposing Marner to Seattle...Could the Leafs have spend 11m better than on one Marner? That is open to reasonable debate, and nothing to do with anyone's pro or anti bias about Marner.

But you are worried about Marner being overpaid!!

Literally every single top 6 UFA that you have to compete with other teams to sign ends up getting overpaid!!

Would you rather B. Coleman and J.schwartz today instead of M.Marner??? Because that's the level of players you are talking about that combine for approx Marners salary.

I'm not Mr. Pro Marner. I'm just very very very anti trading him for little more than capspace.

The Leafs have literally been able to find 1 other player as good or better than him since the early 90s.

You don't toss those guys away for free because they got $1.5mmore than they should. N.Ritchie is overpaid at least that much. Those are the guys you trade away for nothing.

Not your Franchise players! I really don't get why this is so difficult for people.

Start with Tkachuk from the Flames for Marner, and I'd listen.

Seems like Tavares is a better target for this, or even rielly (that extension shocked me), but fair.

Tavares got the going rate for a UFA...so I don't object to his contract so much. Carolina's Aho and Marner had identical stats for two straight seasons going into their RFA contract. Aho got 8.45m X 5. Leafs had the leverage, no reason to pay his 2.5m a year more. No way RFA Matthews should have got the second highest salary in a the league on a five year contract. IMO my opinion Leafs gave away 4m per year considering other league comparables for those two players.
