leafs after rielly extension

Created by: q_birm_8

Description
Trade descriptions are in the trades sections
Contract info:
Campbell: Soupy should get a similar contract to Chris Driedger (3x3.5). With a few more NHL seasons, and seasons as a starter, under his belt, but up to this point he still hasn't proven himself over a full season.
Spezza: same contract, no reason to think he retires
Engvall: has been good as a 3rd liner, but hasn't gotten a ton of opportunity. He has potential to be a really good two way 3rd liner, and the leafs extend him for decent term and a great value AAV
Sandin: before the Rielly signing, I was hoping he'd be extended long term, which would keep his price down. Now I gave him a bridge deal that carries past the end of the Muzzin and Brodie contracts, meaning they can use that space to extend him long term.
Liljegren: with the Holl trade, he becomes a regular for the rest of the year, but doesn't prove enough to warrant more than a cheap bridge deal.
I would also resign one of Menell or Hollowell to be the 7th D, or bring in someone from FA.

Trades
1.
TOR
  1. 2022 2nd round pick (COL)
NYI
  1. Holl, Justin
Additional Details:
will be massively overvalued due to his right shot, reputation as being a top 4 shutdown guy, and good value contract. Trade happens right now during the 2021/22 season while holl still has value, even though most moves in this ACGM will be offseason ones
2.
TOR
  1. 2023 5th round pick (OTT)
OTT
  1. Ritchie, Nick
Additional Details:
He's been a bust with the leafs, but the sens have shown that they are willing to take on bad contracts for super cheap, and wouldn't be surprised if they do it again. 5th is pretty fair for a solid 3rd liner who is slightly overpaid and is being traded from a team needing cap space
3.
TOR
  1. 2023 3rd round pick (DAL)
DAL
  1. Kerfoot, Alexander
Additional Details:
Kerfoot makes too much money to keep when there are cheaper options such as Nick Robertson or even maybe Joey Anderson. The stars are weaker at forward and Joe Pavelski is a pending UFA. Kerfoot is a good bridge add for a pretty cheap price. Leafs get a decent pick but more importantly huge cap relief

So who plays top 6 c if Matthews or Tavares goes down?

As we saw at the beginning of this season (Matthews) and playoffs (Tavares), kerfoot can do a decent job of it. Kampf is a shutdown c so can't move up.

Kerfoot is necessary for that insurance...

I think you are over-valuing 3 cap dumps. TOR will have to give up assets to move these guys. They will not be getting 2nd or 3rd round picks back!

Why do the islanders want a RHD which is the whole basis for the price when they have pulock dobson and mayfield on the right side.

You might get some thing for Kerfoot but Ritchie and Holl have future years at bad numbers. You dont get assets back to dump that in fact you probably need to add a 3rd to each to move them to get back a 7th

This. I don't think he makes their roster with Brady, Stutzle, Paul and Formenton. They're also done taking bad contracts other than maybe expiring contracts this year, I think - they're going to be trying to ditch Zaitzev, Murray, or White soon due to cap. Ooh - maybe Murray for Kerfoot?

yes, we will trade a player who has fit in our top 6 really really well for a trash goalie making 6.25 for 2 more years

Makes as much sense as Sens trading for Ritchie.
