A Better Raymond and Marner Trade In My Opinion

Created by: Roysboy72
Team: 2021-22 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 1, 2021
Published: Nov. 1, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not perfect, but what I would value it at with a few additions to make it more realistic. Any thoughts or opinions?

Edit: I know Detroit would never do this, it’s just a reaction to some Raymond-Marner swaps that I’ve seen a couple times in the past week or so

That would be a bad trade for Detroit

Why would Detroit do this? Marner is grossly overpaid and the guy sucks in the playoffs. No freaking way am i dealing Raymond for Marner. I bet when all is said and done Raymond will have a better career then Marner.

Leafs take this and run. Offloading $10 mil and replacing with a guy four years younger on an ELC whose production is already fantastic is a no brainer.

9 game sample size is not a no brainer. Marner currently >>>>>>>>>>> Raymond. Leafs aren't trading low on Marner for potential. They're in win now.
It's cool, Wings fans should be excited about Raymond, he looks good now and should have a promising career ahead. Nothing is guaranteed in this league and Dubas would be a moron to accept this trade.

All true, I made the value lean towards Toronto in hopes Leafs fans would see it as fair and concede some ground so they’d stop asking for a one-for-one or with picks added with Raymond in these trade proposals, but evidently:

That approach hasn’t worked.

A recent DET draft pick has 9 points in 9 games and they would be interested in trading him why...? ELC, will be an RFA, 19 years old, and showing a lot of potential.

DET just needs to keep doing what they're doing -- they have great prospects and they're developing them well. In 2 years, watch out.

True, they do have to win now if they are ever going to. I just thought this would help them with their super tight cap crunch, and I do think Raymond will be a Marner type player, but you're right it's not the best move right now.

Bold statement for a guy who has played 9 games.

Not interested in trading him, just a reaction to a few Raymond-Marner trade proposals I’ve seen in the past week.

WHY?

Unless Toronto retains $4m+, I wouldn’t consider from Detroit end.

Leafs would 100% take that offer, And saying that Marner is 11 times better then Raymond is totally ludicrous.

Gotcha - Marner and Raymond have similarities in their games. Raymond’s shot is much better and he’ll be a better line driver than Marner. Marner will be the better playmaker. Then when you take into consideration Marners contract and where Detroit is in their rebuild, it just makes 0 sense for them.

No, The Leafs wouldn't 100% take this offer.

At this moment, Mitch is the best player in this deal, and this deal proposes that the Leafs add a young D AND a second for Erne and an expiring UFA? It doesn't make sense.

Not one person here said Mitch is 11 times better than Raymond.

Wrong BigDaddyOvech said Marner >>>>>>>>>>> Raymond Which is ludicrous Raymond is already on pace to beat Marners 61 point season 1st year. And that's on a far worse Detroit club.

Raymond has looked very good to me and I think he will be better than Marner down the road. Marner is great, but he’s not worth the contract. At this point I’m keeping Raymond and betting on his future.

Yes, they are in win now mode. Except, don’t you actually have to win to be in win now mode?

Raymond is like 10 games into his NHL career and trading for him would put him in a position that's untenable. Detroit's doesn't have the same pressure to succeed that Toronto does right now, and putting him in the top 6 of the team that's looking to the win the cup seems like a.....terrible idea? Great way to absolutely blow out his confidence.
