If NSH could get that return from VGK for retaining $1.5m on Johansen and adding a 4th liner comparable to Eakin, NSH would 100% do that deal right now -- but it's not even close for VGK (even with their need for centers right now).

Question is Toews an asset or a cap dump - if he's an asset I'll remove him

I actually think the CHI proposal is the best for the other team. They get to move away from Toews, and they get Shane Wright.

Buffalo's current record does not indicate Shane Wright to me. Dach has 1C potential, probably between the range of Dubois and Getzlaf. Afaik they arent trying to ship out Toews

It's early in the season, and I expect BUF to come back down to earth soon. Dach has a lot of potential, but the return offsets his loss IMO. Putting aside the negatives surrounding Toews in regards to the Kyle Beach matter, I think it's best for CHI to move on from Toews anyway. He's not worth his contract, and freeing up that cap space would be a huge boon for CHI with all the RFAs they have to re-sign in the summer.

I disagree with your assessment on Toews as a player, I think he is currently a bit overpayed but still a positive value player. They really arent in a financial struggle next season either with Fleury's contract expiring.

I definitely see Buffalo coming back to earth too, I just don't think they are finishing with the best odds at Wright anymore. To me any prospect drafted in the range where I expect that pick to land will be at best on par with Dach.

Fair. I see your position, but respectfully disagree too. Seth Jones' raise eats up so much of the Fleury savings - and CHI will still need to pay whoever they get to be a starter next season too. CHI has a lot of work to do in the offseason, and I feel getting out from under Toews' contract enables them to do more than tread water next year.

Jones raise can be chalked into De Haan contract, they will still have a bunch from Fleury after that. I think we are still ignoring the Toews NMC which he definitely wont waive to Buffalo

$21M in cap space next season, and only 12 NHLers under contract. It won't be easy. Though Chiacago has managed to wriggle their way out of cap problems and bad contracts before (Keith, Hossa, Seabrook), so I guess I won't be surprised if they find a way to do it again.

If Nashville can dump Johansen, retaining 1.5 mil, and a meh 4th center for Brisson, Hague and the best player in the trade in Stephenson they'd do that trade and skip the Sabres....

I don't know Hayden but I can't see Chicago considering that at all! Dach is essentially untouchable
