Buffalo already said they're not retaining any of Eichel's cap

The deal is in place but Vegas can’t make the cap work rn. They need to have 10 million in cap space before they can trade for eichel.

Other than being petty why can’t sabres retain?

Why should they retain? Its a 10 million dollar player, making 10 million dollars. Retention costs money and cap space, plus a retention spot, and the sabres arent likely to wanna limit their ability to spend more than a year or two down the road. And the owner is sick of paying people to not work for him. Im sure the sabres would take back cap dumps as long as they are no longer than 2 years.

Covid has changed the entire league’s situation. Retaining 2 million does zero to effect the sabres cap situation. Refusal to do so has done nothing but eliminate a market for him. I’m not even worried about his health as much. But contracts were signed assuming cap would be close to 90 right now and the teams that did have cap room pretty much used it up already. If they’re willing to die on that hill fine but I’m sure they’ve already missed out on the exact package they wanted multiple times over this.

If they could retain for just 1 season, (they can't) I'm sure they would. There's no chance they are retaining for 5 years. lol.
