- The Vegas deal is better than this, Krebs is better than any prospect Calgary has
- This only clears $2.425M Calgary would have to significantly add to drop a Lucic or a Zadorov which still doesn't put them close to the 10M
- Monahan wasn't going to waive for Buffalo, that was a pipe dream, he has the clause that's his right and you certainly can't blame him.
- Calgary could blow the Vegas deal out of the water with what was proposed yesterday by Weekes but that was never on the table, and you would have the same #firetreliving crowd bit**ing and moaning that you do today if it happened
- Buffalo targeted guys that are locked in Buffalo long term, if Tkachuk was in play he would be gone in two years, Buffalo at least has a piece from the deal for 6 years now.
Zary is more or less near what Krebs is. Right now anyway.
Krebs has fallen quite a bit in expectations since he was drafted.
Kreb's is an NHL'er at this point, at least in Buffalo, Zary has a fractured ankle and hasn't seen the ice since the start of training camp in developmental years. I think in regards to trade value Krebs has a ton more in this deal. You may be right about the player going forward but at the time of the trade I think Krebs has significantly more value.

You are underevaluating Mangiapane's worth
As of today, no I don't think so compared to Tuch's contract in an organization that has a tough time attracting players, Tuch and Krebs are both under team control until 2026 I think, maybe 2027 for Krebs. Mangiapane is a UFA in 2023 if he wants to be and will get paid more than Tuch next year, he could walk his way out of Buffalo before they turn the corner rebuilding.
Probably would have had to added Välimäki to the mix and made the 1st top 5 protected instead of top 10 protected like Vegas
It just wouldn't get done. The package from Vegas there has controllable assets until 2027, Mangiapane can be a UFA in 2023, Coronato is a wild card, I think he will be a diamond in the rough but that's my completely uneducated opinion, Buffalo seemed locked on Krebs and Tuch is a piece that can play and has to be in Buffalo long term.
Flames fans are clamoring for Treliving's head which is such craziness, the post above is just to show that Calgary could not have met the ask because of salary, term and prospects.

Mangiapane could decide to force arbitration and a one year deal but not every player would if offered a fair deal- but maybe you're right

This isn’t really true. At the draft his value was lower, he went 17th overall. An ordinary 17 OA pick is not hyped as a top prospect the way Krebs is. At the draft he had an Achilles injury, which he has apparently fully recovered from.
