Team: 2022-23 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 5, 2021
Published: Nov. 5, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Miller doesn't fit our time line and is a UFA.

Petterson would be good to move to shake things up. Pick from CBJ would be the lower of their 2, top 5 protected.

Domi and Horvat are close and he could fill the gap Miller left.

Basically, move a couple guys, gain some assets, soft re-tool, new coach and try again.

Defense still needs an overhaul but that's easier once Myers is gone.

Rangers won't pay the asking price that's set for Miller. If he's coming here, it's gonna be for a lot less.

If Vancouver is willing to retain that much salary on Miller, I can't see anyone paying a cheaper price than what's proposed here.

Exactly my thought. A PPG player at a ~2.5mil cap hit would be huge for a contender.

Have you forgotten that way he played at times as a Ranger?

The Pettersson trade is arguably an equal to or better return than the Eichel deal. Not sure how you could want much more.

Doesn't have to be to NYR then just any team looking to add for a comparable package.

What Miller did as a Ranger 2 teams and 3 PPG seasons ago is kind of irrelevant.

Miller had one insane year and went back down to earth. No one is paying double the price VAN did to acquire him. Simple as that.

72 points in 69 games
46 points in 53 games
12 points in 11 games

I guess .87 PPG is just "back down to earth."

Miller is worth more than what the Canucks acquired him for because

A) Tampa needed to clear cap
B) Miller has proven he is a high level player since the trade
C) the Canucks would retain making him very cheap at the deadline.

Value is fair, but not sure Rangers pull the trigger on that one unless Chytil is garbage and Lundkvist & Trouba are great.

Jackets probably accept that Pettersson trade but swap Roslovic for Domi since Ros is a hometown kid. It's more of an optics issue since the fans love him here.

Trading Petey seems a bit of an overreaction. He has not been good this year but give him a year with a system that isn't Green's and I reckon he bounces back

He isn't a good fit here? I don't know maybe that doesn't matter? I loved JT Miller and he was the LAST player I wanted them to trade when we started that rebuild. I don't like the price and refuse to meet it personally.

Don't you feel it is a red flag in our case that he exploded outside of MSG?

The difference is we don't have to move our star player. We can keep him.

I don’t see how Miller’s smaller production in NY proves he isn’t a good fit for us. He didn’t break out until coming to the Canucks.

I mean no, not really. He also spent time in Tampa before exploding.

There are plenty of players that have exploded with a change of scenery/different role. Doesn't mean they would all of a sudden start to suck again if they went back to their original team.

Probably right. This is in the off season so I'm kind of assuming it's after this entire season being underwhelming.

If Pettersson has an underwhelming year he'll definitely get a chance to rebound with a new coach/GM.

I gotta assume he will? What gives me the hope you won't blunder? And again, He was my favorite Ranger then. I loved him and thought he was untouchable due to the rebuild. His stats as a Ranger were also very solid but I feel coming back to the team he had mental struggles with isn't of his benefit in terms of positive performance.
