Would love to see Lou go all out on LD. Seems to be the only hole right now sans Bailey playing poorly

I’m not sure Detroit could trade Leddy back directly to us retained… that could be seen as cap circumvention I believe. Otherwise cap strapped teams could trade away a player to Arizona just for them to retain for a good prize, then get them back on a better, cheaper contract.

No, Isles will have 10M$ in capspace by deadline. Thanks to accumulating capspace until then.

Its a good point but at the same time, not sure its directly like that scenario. Leddy would've spent 65 ish games with the Wings by then. Isles admit they messed up and get him back for an actual price. I see what you mean though. I bet they could fit in the 5.5 with accumulated space too however

Lou tends to realize the weaknesses. Lindholm sorta feels like Palmieri to me in the sense that its when, not if. Too many rumblings about him in Lou's world for there to not be any actual traction I feel like

I don’t want him back though, relieved he’s gone. He’s been awful defensively once again this season. And it’s not the system or Detroit as a team.

It is cap circumvention. Detroit cannot retain. Anyways trading Leddy was the right move , it just so happens the isles replaced him with the worst defenseman in the NHL.

Leddy was brutal in the playoffs last season , there are better defenseman available .

I think it is a full season before he can be traded back to the Islanders with retention. Which sucks because that is a generous offering for Leddy.

You are correct. To retain on Leddy and trade him back to Isle, per CBA, it can only happen after 1 calender year from the time he was traded to the Wings.
