But realistically I think he's in the 8-9.5 range. The Flames used their leverage during the last negotiation, now Johnny has the leverage. The Flames may have to pay up big time to keep him.

I would budget for 8million for Gaudreau. I think that's fair. I'm a big fan of his, and I'm really glad he's playing so much better now

I find it pretty interesting the cap works here with adding in Hertl and not needing to buyout Lucic or anything. I think you will need to pay to acquire Hertl, though. SJS won't be in the playoff race long, and if they feel they can't sign him they'll sell him at the deadline. Depending on his rest of the season, you also might need to pay to offload Monahan. His NTC could make things difficult, though certainly possible if he keeps staying on the 4th line especially

Would love to bring in Hertl and have that 1a/1b 200 foot duo of lindy/hertl. With Sutter at helm, we would be a very difficult team to match up aginst.



Wonder if you could include Monahan in the Hertl package as I'm sure they could use him as a replacement for Hertl and then try and flip him next year. Maybe something around Monahan+first+some prospect for Hertl signed.

I'm not very abreast on SJS's prospects, but you'd probably have to include CGY's best C prospect in Zary to move the needle on taking Monahan. Especially depending what SJS can do regarding Evander Kane cap wise.

Ultimately I think SJS will re-sign Hertl. In the offseason the general rumor was both sides wanted to make a deal
