Why do Flames trade one of there best players when they are top 5 in the leauge?

Sorry OP but these proposals are not even close

1) Gaudreau is a guy the Flames should absolutely extend, instead of getting a most likely bad contract in Gallagher

2) - Price has no value with his contract. You'd actually have to give up assets for a team to take on that contract

- Poehling has very little value at this point. The 6 AVS assets in this ACGM are significantly more valuable

- Petry still has value but it's another risky contract... 34 y/o very soon and has 3 more years at 6.25 after that

- Girard and Newhook are premium pieces, you have to make Suzuki or Caufield available to get any of them

So maybe if you remove Girard and Newhook, the value would be closer but then how do the Avs take on this kind of salary?

What an awful trade for the avs. They decline this instantly and ask Montreal never to call them ever again

Replace Poehling with Suzuki. Add in Romanov and retain 3 mil on Price. Yes. Avs will listen.
