Deal could be different, Stecher is likely the main piece involved. Dermott and Stecher are very similarly skilled players in my eyes

Apart from Stecher not being as good they are similar yes. They both play hockey and are defenceman, I guess that's pretty close.

I wanted to try a dermott for Stetcher trade; seems like a near perfect needs match, but I didn’t want to listen(read) Tor fans talk about how Dermot is the next coming of Bobby Hull and that package isn’t enough and yaddi yaddi... it’s just tiring.

if detroit retains half salary on stecher, he could be a cheaper depth option than what they have right now, and give them a little more flexibility elsewhere in the lineup and at the trade deadline.

By downgrading the position?

if they feel that liljegren can step in and play as the 6D consistently, a downgrade at the 7D spot might be worth it if they can find an upgrade on the LW at the TDL with the increased cap space.

Has Dermott played on any national teams like Stretcher?
I’m a Leafs fan but you think the Leafs players are way better than they are

Why, just WHY?! I do not want Dermott for free... He's Brett Lebda 2.0. Makes horrible decisions and is a massive defensive liability. Hard pass.

Shall I remind everyone?

This is NOT an isolated incident either. It's Dermott summed up, in one clip.

Liljegren is already showing hes a player. So has Dermott and Holl is also a good player. They don't need Stecher

Justin Pogge also played on a national team. That doesn't always mean anything.

they don't need him. but if trading dermott and getting him at 50% retained means the leafs can make a bigger splash on a LW at the TDL with the increased cap space, it could be worth it.

What bigger splash? Is a handful of money going to mean they get a big time LW? No. They don't have the cap space and having defensive depth is going to be more important than another middle 6 LW

Not World Junior, there are lots of prospects who played that did not make it in that. I'm talking last years World Championships.
Do you think Dermott was even remotely close to Canada's World Champiosnhip list?

Stetcher isn't special.

NO he's not, but he would be an upgrade from Dermott.
I do think Dermott is playing better this year with a more expanded role, but Stretcher is still better.

I don't think so. Stetcher just doesn't offer anything Dermott doesn't already have.

Guess Hockey Canada think elsewise lol.
I can't beileve you have not been hired by an NHL team yet on your assesment of players.

Its a lateral move. Stecher has been passed over by a lot of teams a lot of times. He's a good 6/7 defenceman. I just don't see the need to send assets to get him when we already have as good or better options internally.
