Toews is the much better target for what this team needs, he is also way more likely to waive to western Canada

yea I mean I don't disagree. I guess it would be up to Tre whether he thinks an upgrade at RW or C is more needed. with Dube moving back to centre and seemingly fitting in at the position I just thought that targeting the more talented player won out over the position. with your idea Dube probably moves back to Wing and the second line would be dube - Toews - Mangi. im not sure that line would provide as much offense as moving Tkachuk to the second line and having a dominant first line with two of the best playmakers in the game setting up Lindholm and each other. i think kane is also more valuable on the PP then Toews

It's not really as much about the offense, as you can probably tell Calgary isn't in dire need of offense. One problem with moving Monahan for Kane is it forces Lindholm to center the PP with no one else who can come in if he's kicked out. Toews is one of the best FO guys in the league and an excellent 2-way player. He already plays the same spot as SM on the PP too. Imagine a PK of Backlund - Lindholm and Toews - Coleman.
