that doesn't get you Chychrun.
Try: Holloway, Broberg, and a first as a base - you'll still need more.

I frequently see the Isles flip an extended Varlamov to Edmonton for the 2022 1st and pay to dump Bailey. This trade accomplishes more than that - if you can elaborate I'm all ears otherwise I am disinclined to believe you.

Why would they dump Bailey?

It won't cost a first to move Kassian. When healthy (like he is this year) he's well worth his cap hit as a power forward. If he scores 15+ goals this year (he's on pace for nearly 30 so far) they'll get an asset back for him. Lots of teams want that physicality.

Ah BeterChiarelli! How you doing man? I feel like I haven’t talked to you in ages.

I feel like Colin Miller isn’t needed, as I believe next year Samorukov may be ready to play on the bottom pair with Keith in this post. As of next year, I doubt it that Bourgault, and Savoie will be ready for the NHL. My guess is the only rookies that will be up is Holloway, Samorukov, and possibly Skinner. That’s all in my opinion. For the Chychrun trade, based on the recent Eichel one, I feel like that may be close. Maybe another small asset, but it’s pretty good.

Let me try and break down that three way trade…..

EDM: Semyon Varlamov
NYI: 2023 2nd round pick (EDM), Chris Driedger
SEA: Josh Bailey, Tyson Barrie

After looking at it, I would have to say I like it! With Bouchard playing well, we don’t need Barrie anymore. Seattle could use a PP quarterback, so they could use him. Isles get a cheep goalie which is needed for resigns, and Sorokin could be ready. We need a good starter, and Varlamov has always been really good, and I believe he got some vezina votes last year. I don’t think it would cost a first to dump Kassian especially since he is having a good season, but who knows.

For a top 10 cost-controlled dman a year younger than Eichel to a team in the same division? Different scenario than Eichel.

For cap space. They need to sign Dobson after this season, and Walhstrom, and Barzal in 2 years.

The Oilers and Coyotes are not in the same division. Eichel has more term and plays a much more valuable position. I don't expect Arizona to get a better offer; Edmonton would have to add no more than a mid-round 2024 pick and it'll be the best offer they get.

I admire your courage in trading for Chychrun. For some reason he's valued like prime Erik Karlsson after a good season in which he scored immensely above expected.

Except he likely will. Chychrun is a 1D being paid like the 4/5 D for 3 more years. You’re saving about $5 mil with the current market for defense. Chychrun is probably a top 15 if not top 10 asset in the game with his skill and contract. Eichel should be a top 5 asset, but he has a potentially career altering injury, is paid like a top 10 center, and you aren’t sure what you’re going to get. Apples to oranges but look at what Seth Jones got. Now add 2 more years of team control. The price is astronomically high

As a Sabres fan, I’d accept that
Not that i have much interest in Kassian- esp with that contract
But that 1st makes it worth it IMO

Can you find me a top line defenseman making $4.5m for 3 years in a flat capped world? When you take a step back and look at how he’s produced when the team isn’t in the dumps (literally last year), his age, his contract in a flat capped world? Yeah it’s not that audacious of a claim. Seth Jones and just about every other defender got $9 mil this offseason. Chychrun can be had at half

Let me put this to you another way as well. Arizona wanted in on the eichel trade for salary retention purposes, showing they’d retain over 5 years. They could retain 50% on chychrun turning him into a $2.3m player for 3 years. Still think top 15 or top10 is crazy?

Of course I would take a first and Kassian.
After watching how Washington bullied the Sabres, Buffalo needs more physical players.
I seriously doubt Edmonton wants to trade him as he is their top hitter and has 3 goals and 5 pts in 10 games.

I don’t pretend to know what EDMs GM is thinking
But it was rumored they were trying to dump him last year

Now maybe his hot start this year changed their minds
Or maybe his hot start actually makes a GM who wouldn’t take a chance on him last year, willing to take on that contract now

But like i said…. Idk what EDM is thinking
I’m just responding to this guy’s idea
* i think he’s an EDM fan, for whatever that’s worth
