They have no need for another 3rd line Center when they already have Tierney, White, Paul. Who are all capable.
Pinto is less than a week away from returning so he comes back as the 2 C and the rest falls into place.

Great having cap, but suddenly two minors leaguers are on the Leaf roster. Leafs are worse now and in the future.

Robertson is still a maybe as a prospect, (even the leafs saw something that made them demote him and play retreads in kase, ritchie, etc...) and there will be other teams interested in Rakell. You think thats the best deal they'll see?

You might not like it, but Rakell is the best player in that offer

Fine. All of what you said could be true. Leafs still aren't moving Robertson for a rental.

And obviously with the Leafs cap situation, it's not as easy as just saying Leafs chose retreads over Robertson to start the season. Leafs literally haven't been able to carry a 13th forward for majority of the season.
