Description
Yes I know it’s not happening. Yes I know Greenway for Strome makes more sense. This is something new for the sake of being original.

Calgary gets a little cap relief and a better player in Greenway. MIN gets draft capital and adds low risk depth.

Hmmm,

Overall I think it benefits CGY more long term, (if they can re-sign Greenway).

I don’t think that’s a bad thing. Greenway needs a spot and if he breaks out for CGY, all the better for both him and the flames.

I also really like the idea of adding a depth D since we know Benn isn’t one and I struggle with putting Addison in that role, even if he is more than capable. I just wonder if Z can fill that role.

CGY have a 55% team Corsi rn tho their 7-1-3 record isn't as precarious as other teams that are just riding a PDO wave so that 2nd might be really low

Kylington's booming emergence so key

So the best asset Minnesota gets back for greenway's cost controlled prime might be a 55th overall pick? That's kinda mind boggling honestly. Confused

At least adding a Matt Phillips type seems key

EStaal and Demers can replace pit/zad easily

Honestly, that pick is probably what he’s worth. Especially if we get a young d man coming back (even if I have reservations about said d man). As a Wild fan, I obviously wouldn’t mind an extra piece coming back.

But he 'broke out' for MIN last season tho

Similar pts/g to

Kadri Couture Monahan RNH tarasenko

With his talent that's probably as good as it gets

Just off to a slow start in 7 games it's no big

Having watched Greenway for a few years, I think he’s at best a complimentary piece on a middle 6 line. As for last year, he rode the Ek/Foligno scoring bender for all it was worth and then didn’t put up a point for 20 games.

I also see your point and some GM will too. Hopefully that GM thinks Greenway is Mantha.

Yeah I suppose it’s possible, but i would be pretty shocked if Greenway yielded much more than a 2nd and a small extra either in the form of a depth player or lower end prospect.

His stats last year are not a good barometer for his actual trade value, IMO.

Well he’s no longer playing with Ek and Foligno, and doesn’t have a clear role on the team, so if you’re expecting his stats to normalize to last year levels, you’re in for a surprise.

We also just flat out don’t need him anymore with other guys stepping up. There is an argument to be made over the types of pieces we should be going after in exchange for Greenway, but until proven otherwise, his value is not what it was this offseason.

I don't know a ton about Greenway but I would consider giving that a long look. The other question would be what you think his potential contract could look like this summer as the Flames have a few other players that will need big raises (Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Mangiapane, Kylington).

It’s a good question, I’m not great at finding comps or ballparking next contract projections, so maybe someone with more insight can chime in. But IMO, I’d probably expect something like a 4x3M, or maybe 3x3.5M. Take him to age 28/29. I may be off with that but I’d have a hard time giving him more money or term. I think this year will have a big impact on his next contract.

It's funny how Greenway rode JEE, the guy who can't score a goal unless it's 6" from the goal line. It's not like he's the 3rd FWD on McDavid/Drais or Kane/Cat lines just taking up space and eating up 2nd assists.

Seriously, the longest he went without a point last year was 5 games and that's without any type of PP time. His game is inconsistent, sure, but that's why he's a $3m/yr 3rd line player and not a $6m/yr top line player.
