Please finish the roster! Not cause it's like the rules or anything but I'm really, really curious as to how this would work for the Rangers as a whole. I don't know their system well enough to do it myself.

I think NYR would have to add one of their 2nds (or maybe a 3rd or 4th)

Just did. Lines are a little funky but oh well. I definitely think there’s a fit, but it’s all based on if either of the trade clauses allow it.

Philly doesn't do this. Trouba's contract is even worse than Hayes's an Philly doesn't need any RHD.

The term is the same and the cost is hardly more than a league-minimum player.

Unless the plan is to extend Ristolainen I don't follow your logic at all.

Even if we wouldn't extend Risto we could just get a RD from FA instead of trading our 2C for one.

The UFA market for quality right-handed defencemen starts and stops with Klingberg this offseason. The only quality RFA names that exist belong to interdivisional rivals; if Klingberg doesn't want to leave Dallas or the Flyers can't match what will realistically be a Trouba-sized bid for his services, then Philadelphia is probably looking at another season of mediocrity.

The way I had pictured the aftermath of this trade is that Frost would become the incumbent #2C and Laughton retains his position as the #3C. Is Morgan not ready for that kind of deployment? Will he ever be at this rate?

👎 id rather not. Thats a bad contract which is something lou has been trying to clear out. Hes also not an upgrade to anything next year.

Am I missing something with this, why would Philly ever do this trade (I get that its Chuck Fletcher we talking about here but c'mon)?
From what I gather Trouba's been playing on a level befitting someone on the bottom pair whereas Hayes is actually a good 2C?

Would rather have Hayes than Trouba from a Philadelphia perspective. Flyers have Ellis and Sanheim can play the right side if necessary. Or they can extend Ristolainen or find a middle/bottom pair defensemen in the Free Agency market. Hayes is one of the better players Philadelphia has up front, can't see them trading him away.

Philly doesn;t need a RD this year, but with Braun and Risto as UFAs, its possible in the offseason. (While Cam York is a LD, Egor Zamula is learning RD, so a provorov-ellis, york-trouba/risto, sanheim-zamula defense in 22-23 is possible)

Hayes carries more value both in production and contract (length and salary).

The only way it works is if Frost/Foerster develop, NYR add something remarkable (a 2nd and more) or a 3rd party retains 2mil of trouba or more. As another poster said, Philly probably re-signs Risto in that 6mil range, and moves JVR to afford it rather than Hayes.

I think even based on limited sample size in Philly, Risto is resigned for 6-6.75 or Flyers take that Trouba money and go for Klingberg.
