This actually looks like a really good trade based on the needs of the teams involved. I think both sides would benefit, though the Sabres would likely want a sweetener added in, they are retaining salary after all.

Kerfoot has 0 value to Buffalo, and at this point theyll want to keep both of those players, Olofsson is RFA. Maybe if Toronto continues to underperform and that 1st is actually a decent shot at a good pick

What do you think the Sabres needs are?

I think Kerfoot and Girgensons are getting swapped for cap reasons. They're both the same age and pretty much the same caliber of player, so it works without changing the value all too much.

Picks, prospects. This trade would be better if Toronto added a decent prospect as a sweetener, and if they did I see this as a quality trade.

Girgensons is beloved by the front office though, he is the Fred Jackson of the Sabres
Edit: I forgot to mention Coe College

If the Sabres were moving depth pieces or older players maybe, Olofsson is a 24 year old RFA, I dont see why they would want to get rid of him without replacing him. Trading Eichel doesnt signal a rebuild, he was lockerroom cancer, both sides are better off without him. The Sabres are loaded with prospects now, I dont see them moving rfas that are producing unless they are supplanted by an AHLer

True, and he does have an A on his chest to show it, now that I think about it. Would a player like Tage Thompson be a suitable replacement then? I know he's younger, but maybe then Toronto would have to add some more value to counteract it.

FYI Olofsson is 26 but I get what you mean

You are both correct, the value change is very reasonable.
This is really a close call for Buffalo.
If Buffalo thinks they could compete next year, then IMO they would pass.
On the other hand if they think the rebuild is at least 3 years away, I could see them making this trade.
Make it TML 2022 2nd instead of 2023, and add the 2022 7th instead of "B" prospect.
Then Dubas could save on air fare, hotel rooms and meals while sitting out the 2022 draft entirely. (LOL)

I think will be a solid indication of how well he knows his own team

I think either Tage or Mittelstadt could be moved out by next season. Right now Tage has been pretty good for Buffalo while Mitts is hurt

Cheers I think maybe Ollofson is a little bit underrated here, but I'd say the sabres want someone like NicRob instead of the first.
