The last thing we need is Erik Gubrandson, even if sprong gets pushed out you keep him because it gives us a great extra wing to have incase of injury, Also Schultz has been amazing, theres 0 chance we get rid of our PP2 Qb

Gudbranson is terrible. I'd go for someone else if we need cap relief

Flames have 1 mill in cap room. We would be over the cap with this trade

Worth watching him this year if that's your thought. Been rock solid on the back end.

Relative to his teammates:
-2.66 Expected Goal%
+0.04 Scoring Chance%
-1.70 High Danger Scoring Chance%

So still pretty bad.

I mean you can take as many numbers as you like and think what you like, in no way does it make what you're saying correct. Been a perfect bottom pair guy, plays 15 - 20 minutes a night, rotation partners giving guys sheltered minutes, less than a 2M cap hit. Not much else you could ask for on a bottom pairing.

2 points in 12 games is far from amazing. Especially with powerplay time and 64% offensive zone starts.

I was very skeptical when we signed Gudbranson but he has so far been very impressive as a bottom pairing D - solid, big, excellent on the PK and not making any glaring mistakes. All for less than $2M - exactly what is needed in a 5/6 D. We will be keeping him thanks.

Yes, I watch the games. He's being paid 4 million to be the #6 defenseman. He has 1 goal and 1 assist. I've seen nothing amazing.

Then you haven't actually watched. Schultz doesn't have the points, but has been rock solid defensively with TVR and creates some good chances. Also, it isn't right to classify him as a 6D, Laviolette has used the D pretty fairly imo. There is no reason to send not only him but a promising young winger in Sprong away when you have free cap relief chances just by dumping Kempny and a 3rd or 4th to a team like Arizona. Not to mention the return here isn't what Washington needs, it's not enough value for Schultz and Sprong together and Gudbranson isn't what the Caps would ask for anyway as they could slide TVR back to RD and put Cholo at LD.

He is #6 in TOI and #6 in points among defenseman. That makes him the #6 defenseman. Also he doesn't kill penalties and has 1 powerplay point in 20+ minutes of ice time. #6 all day.

Mackenzie Weeger is 4th on Florida in points this year and HAS 0 PP Points, Chychrun is tied with 3 D for 2 points on his team, and Essa Lindell has 1 point. these are all good D that are having slow starts point wise but playing well. Im not gonna have you tell me Nick Jensen, Ferhevary, or TVR (arguably) are playing better than him.

Per the Athletic:

Erik Gudbranson: -0.8 GSVA, Replacement level Player
vs
Martin Fehervary: 0.1 GSVA, Third Pairing Player
TVR + Schultz: both 0.6 GSVA, 2nd Pairing Player
Jensen: 1.2 GSVA, Top Pairing player
Orlov: 1.5 GSVA, Top pairing player
Carlson: 2.9 GSVA, Star Player

In addition to Jensen's stats, Money Puck also ranks Orlov-Jensen as one of the best D pairs in the league.

I don't use advanced stats often as I don't think they tell the whole story, but this is the best way to get my point across. Gudbranson is bad, I've watched Calgary games and I've been far from impressed, and the Capitals defense is better without him. Schultz, Fehervary, TVR, Jensen, Carlson, and Orlov are all far better than Gudbranson, and I certainly wouldn't trade Sprong, let alone Sprong and Schultz for him.

Damn so the stats say again as I was saying Schultz is good and is just having a slow start point wise to the year, thanks

Fehervary with 22 games of experience in his NHL career and a cap hit under 800K , has more points in the last 2 games than Schultz has in 16 games played with 544 games of experience and a cap hit of 4 million. Forgive me for thinking Schultz should be producing more than he is. I don't think Schultz will be back next year anyways with RHD's Carlson, Jensen and Van Riemsdyk already signed.
