It's not interesting to the Kings.

If I was the kings I’d think about it but also if there retaining that much they might not see the point

Dump the salary retention and swap out Brodie for Sandin and Ritchie for Nylander and the Kings might actually consider it. However, Doughty still says no and invokes his NMC, so it's all moot.

Yea obviously it’s under the assumption he’d waive but I doubt just thought it’s an interesting idea

Next year it would be $72M spent on 12 players.

Doesn't make sense to make trades that make next season hard/impossible to get under the cap.

There are plenty of reasons why the Kings don't think about it. Doughty is a no-doubt #1 Defenseman in the league and the Kings would need to be compensated as such if they were to ever trade him. It looks like you're trying to fashion this after the Eichel trade, but your pieces don't match at all.

1) You hit the first nail on the head. No team will pay a guy 21mil (3.5mil retained for 6 years) to not play for them. That's ludicrous.
2) Nick Ritchie has 1 assist in 13 games. With the amount of forward prospects in the Kings system, what would logically make them want another bottom-6 plug who's already peaked?
3) TJ Brodie is the same age as Drew Doughty but is significantly worse.
4) The picks don't interest the Kings all that much. The 2022 one has some value but the Kings want to be out of the rebuild next year unlike Buffalo who is just starting to lean in to theirs. So a late 2023 2nd rounder doesn't move the needle for them in the slightest.

I think the hockey club is keen to see Strome get a chance before making any moves tho that offer would been enough to open trade talks. As for retention and the makeup of the trade there would have likely needed modification.
