2 months ago Kemell was projected at 15th is now thanks to his hot start he's in the top 5 conversation

Good for him

Top 5 convo? I would take him at 2 tbh. I know I’m crazy but I’d consider him at 1

Haven't scouted Kemell yet but I know I have Wright at a very high level, you'd have to be a franchise player to beat Wright, he's so well rounded with top talent

Kemell’s Liga numbers are on pace to destroy Barkov and Laine and kakkos numbers lol

Thoughts on Ivan Miroshnichenko

Guys got star potential but like a lot of Offensive minded Russians lol, he doesn’t really care about defence and has times where he basically is invisible.

But again; kid could become a unreal steal if he falls to past 9

Thoughts on Ivan Miroshnichenko

Miroshnichenko is a very well rounded winger with an elite shot, however, he can lack consistency and effort off the puck, he also plays in the VHL ( the AHL of the KHL ) which means he actually hasn't been too good pointwise ( 9 in 20 games )

One word to sum him up

Gordon-Ramsay-Its-Raw.jpg

With some development he will be a very good hockey player in the NHL.

Topi Niemela was mentioned at the beginning of the thread i think he will be a solid NHL top 4 defender for a long time in the NHL.

Personally thought that last year Eklund was the best prospect in the top 10. Think bruins hit a home run getting lysell in the 20s. Another guy i really liked that Arizona grabbed in the 2nd round was ilya fedotov. only 18 years old but hes getting time in the khl. hes done well in the MHL so will be interesting to see him develop as he gets bigger and stronger.

The real question i have for you guys, what is wrong with NYR prospect development. It cant be a scouting thing. so what gives. Seems like most of their own picks dont pan out or never reach potentials. not to mention you have cant miss guys like laf and Kakko struggling right now.

Has to be coaching and systems plus developmental coaches and their ability to see an issue and correct it. For example Tampa has done so well because they focus of development and putting players in situations to succeed. Think of the Triplets line - Johnson, Palat, Kuch (when they were young). They developed all of them fantastically and continued development. Or for example; teams like SJS TBL BOS (amongst others) have found success in developing through late picks and undrafted players.

I just don’t think the NYR have a good eye for things. Laf should’ve spent time in the AHL tbh and Kakko as well. Just because you have talent doesn’t mean you’re gonna be a star. And if they don’t believe their AHL development team is good enough.. as to why they have been rushing prospects, then maybe there lies the issue.

Eklund should have been top 3 but his size played a part as to why he dropped. Really good at both ends from when I watched him. But man still bothers me scouts still view size as a factor

As for Niemela, can't wait to see him this WJCU20 tournament. If he continues to play well not only is a contract coming but potentially a roster spot for next season

Surprised Askarov is not gonna be the Russian starter

Not sure this is complete tbh. No Askarov, Michkov, Kuznetsov, Lambert, or Kemell. All of those guys should be on the final WJC team. If they aren’t then Russia and Finland are tripping. It really grinds my gears when countries who already have question marks in the lineup (i.e. not Canada with an entire team of top 2 round picks) bring an objectively worse team, snubbing some of their legitimate stars for stupid reasons (i.e. not even bringing Raty at all last year despite him being good enough to be on the team the year prior, his struggles were against men, not his peers, and it looks like the same thing could be true for Lambert this year, Russia is notorious for bringing their own KHL/MHL/VHL guys over players in North America, etc.).

He could, out of the outlets whose rankings I have, BruinsFan35 had him at 196 in his preliminary rankings, NHL CS has him as an A level prospect and FC Hockey had him at 48 in their preliminary rankings so we'll see

I can promise you that Poitras moves up once I get my rankings updated

I've just done Yurov too and I'm calling it a night for scouting, after some reflection I've moved Slafkovsky over Miroshnichenko

Stutzle just needs a pure scorer imo. Like just someone who wants to fill the net.

How does Wright compare, as a projected 1st OA pick, to guys like Lafreniere, Hughes, Nico, etc...?

Just on ceilings, Hughes highest ceiling
Hughes, Wright, Nico-Laf (close)

But rn overall think you gotta go

Hughes, Nico, Wright, Laf because Nico is a legit top 6c

One of my favourite under the radar Leaf prospects had a nice night, 1 goal 2 assists 4 SOG +3 for Joe Miller (TOR)
Playing with Adam Fantilli and Jackson Blake (yes that Blake NYI TOR fans 😂) certainly helps

The prospect im most excited for next to Niemela is Knies.

He was a smart choice by Dubas as once he is NHL ready he is basically gonna be the ideal Hyman replacement. His playstyle, defensive play, forecheck and corner battles remind me so much of Hyman back when he was his age. The two advantages he has, his shot is more developed and his size as man with some work projections have him 6'3 218 pounds.

Miller was one of those picks I felt could be a good surprise and so far he has not disappointed.

For sure. It’s certainly an area of concern right now, but down the road, the LW position looks very solid with Robertson, Amirov, and Knies

Edit:
Health depending with Nick

Yep, if everything works out

Amirov will bring that solid 2-way open playing style teams love to see in their wings.

Robertson will be a LW with a wicked shot and a fiery attitude that will be nice to watch

And Knies will be that scary puck battling PF teams will hate to go up against battling along the boards and feeding the puck to his line mates for easy goals. Just like Hyman did for us.

Gonna be fun these next few years

Oh and cant forget Steeve wink probs gonna maybe make the team sooner than we think if he continues at his current pace
