Now I hate using analytics, development patterns, microstats, etc for prospects but Michkov is without a doubt the next generational talent

As someone who loves numbers and math, happy to see it in hockey. I could roam around Evolving Hockey, Hockey Viz, MoneyPuck, Natural Stat Trick for wayyyyyyyyy to long lol

I think they're a nice tool but they should only be used for professional players and in the right context, not by themselves

I will soon release my updated draft rankings ( everyone with an average under 90 that I had enough info to rank ).

It will have around 55 players ( currently at 54 ranked with 4 left, last ranking had 45 players ). Scouting on those players will have been done anywhere from December 22nd to now so certain players WJC appearance will not factor into their ranking until the next one.

Since I don't feel like making the list again, here's the link to my newest rankings https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/540844

I think it's pretty even, but Bedard will go first.

Too bad he won't be in the NHL until he's 23+. Not enough time to reach historical high point totals or goal scoring.

No he just has a KHL contract that ends when he’s 21, so he can’t play in the NHL until he’s 21

Pretty sure he has an out clause somewhere in his deal so he’d only miss around 2 years

I actually think analytics could be more important for assessing prospects then they are for NHLers. Teams have more info on players that have played in the NHL then they do on most prospects simply because they have been on teams radars for longer and by result have watched them more. NHL is all about production where prospects (with the exception of those playing overseas) play in leagues that are more catered to development then the NHL is. Prospects are so unpredictable because they play in so many different leagues and based off of where they are in their development curve/the role they play for their team their value as a prospect can be skewed. Analytics provide a little more clarity in these areas and aid teams in determining whether a player could be a diamond in the rough, or if they are being overhyped and have the potential to be a bust. This is why analytics are becoming more of a factor in the drafting process.

I agree with what you are saying though in terms of using them in the right context and not by themselves though. For example, you can't justify a NHL 3C who plays 13 minutes a night is better then a NHL top 6 center who plays 16-17 minutes a night purely because his analytics are better, they don't play in the same situations.

EDIT: Pretty rough explanation but I think the jist of it is there lol.

Not all the same teams are at the Olympics though and so you’d have teams from different WJC levels in the same tournament

He reminds me a lot of present-day Brayden Point. To me, Cooley deserves to be in the Top 3 behind Wright and Savoie
