Let's pretend that any of these trades made sense and would be accepted... as you say in the title, you yourself are aware that's a huge stretch...

You give up all your futures and pay up to the cap for 3 players who are all on expiring contracts, while you're in the bottom 3 in the league? It's not like it gets better next year, where you have 14 contracts signed and 13.8mil space. If you were to sign Hertl, he alone takes 7-8million from that. This just doesn't make any sense

guess i should've said this...

By this point Edmundson and Price are back and the team's on a hot streak. so this is like an overoptimistic look and it might be (okay, IS) unrealistic

Insanely hard pass from Detroit. Namestikov is having a great year, is a great fit and loves it here and both Wideman and Kulak are barely NHLers and don't help us at all.

mmm i'd agree on wideman. but definitely not kulak. he's really underrated and is a very good third pair dman.
plus i guess it doesnt have to be namestnikov, just any good 4th liner

The problem is that we already have too many 3rd pairing LHD... Unless we can add an impact player, for now and the future (age and cost control), it just doesn't make any sense for Detroit to be involved in trades. If we get to the TDL and we're out of it, then things change, but they're playing pretty well right now and at some point, they need to stop being sellers and look forward and this might be the year.

Why would Detroit have any interest whatsoever in Kulak and Wideman????

Yes he wont for Canada but even that

Hertl with retention
the 2nd is for the cap dump of Byron who was waive and unclaimed. negative value
the 1st is a year late. SJ wants a 2022 not a 2023 first for Hertl
Brooks is another waiver guy -- marginal AHL player who SJ could have claimed -- no value
Mysek is a nice middle 6 forward but he and a year late 1st does not get hertl.
