It’s a good ask and MIN is pretty deep on LD prospects, but the problem for me is that this just perpetuates mediocrity. We ultimately don’t make a deep run with this roster and cannot afford to re-sign Hertl, so we’re in a worse position next year.

I think it’s a small step forward and two steps back.

Maybe but they are in cap hell after this season for like 4 years so why not take a bite at the apple now?!

I think if you take a bite of the apple now, you’re hindering yourself during Kaps last year of his deal. IMO that’s when MIN should be eyeing a true run. I think everything they do should be done with that year in mind, so that means stockpiling assets and letting ppl develop. If you have a surplus of good LD at that time, then you can deal and fill in gaps elsewhere.

Minnesota isn't a championship team. Wild aren't setting a precedent to pay two 1st round picks for a free agent. A free agent wild can target.

Value seems pretty ballpark and I love the look of Hertl on this team, but not as a rental. I wouldn't do it if I'm Guerin, personally.

I agree with your overall point that this wouldn't be a great move for us to make, but I think this is a fair price. Hertl is a near PPG center. Look at what Duchene got a few years ago when he was traded to Columbus, this is pretty similar.

We couldn't target him in free agency unless we dumped Fiala or Dumba (and probably Greenway) for picks/prospects which is easier said than done, but not impossible.

Lambos as the main prospect isnt very interesting to the sharks. We would be looking for a forward with top six potential.

But Duchene wasn't a 1 year rental . That's the big difference which allowed ottowa to trade him to another team to recouup some assets. A rental doesn't cost this much like ever though. Trying to even do the research now

I want him also, but more of a 1st and b prospect but we all now Guerin doesn't trade 1st round picks much less for rental. He's made that clear no matter if us fans want real c for kaprizov. Biggest worry is its seems kaprizov and Zuccarello are sucking and or not trying hard enough during games

He was a rental in that trade. There was a conditional first that he'd re-sign. Link.

If he's traded I'd be really surprised if he only got a 1st and B level prospect. Hertl is an absolute stud. I don't think Guerin will pay that price, but I could easily see another team offering up something like this.

You're absolutely right, no matter what the fans say he's not going to make a trade if he thinks it doesn't make sense. I think Zucc and Kaprizov have been fine the past handful of games. They do try to force plays a little too much, but I don't think their effort is lacking.

It's just seems they are essentially playing catch, or getting frustrated with having 2 players on them , and not trying to drive. Maybe split them up a few games? Kaprizov especially. Rem now has more goals than him because he drove to the net

Okay but thats not on the sharks to accommodate. All that means is you wont get a 1c in a trade

Nor would MIN expect you to. Sharks will get a good return if they decide to trade Hertl. He’s a machine and plenty of teams will come calling. Just not a good fit for us.

But also let’s not pretend like a 1st and a B prospect doesn’t get you anything. I agree it’s not enough for a guy like Hertl, but it’s not garbage. You can get a pretty decent player for that price.

Sharks are still not getting two 1st round picks for a rental. Doesn't happen and won't happen

I mean you can get Nick Folingo apparently. doesnt exactly have the same impact as Hertl, but apparently thats the value these days.

Great! We will just take whatever the best offer is, and it wont be whatever you personally would offer.

Just because toronto was stupid and overpay means you can use that as a comparison

History shows unleash a team like Tampa Bay wants to buy a championship, no team is paying two 1st round picks for rental

Actually there is another option to make some cap: Talbot and Greenway traded. Rask, Sturm and Goli not re-signed.

Fiala @ $6m (the points aren't there this year), goalie KK @ $1.2m, 3 ELC (Addison, Boldy, Rossi). That leaves $11m ($82.5m cap) to sign 1 d-man, 2 FWDs, 1 goalie, and whatever for the pressbox. It's really tight, but getting Hertl for that 8th year might be enough to stretch the AAV so it works.

1st + Marat K would be my offer for Hertl.

Tomas is a far better player who instantly joins your teams top line. Hertl should at very least get the same value

It wasn't Minnesota who traded for Blake. Not when a player is a free agent compare to one whose not. You seem to forget when a player is a rental it impacts their value
