How is this building for the future? We trade a 20 year old and a very bad contract for a worse contract who is 2 years older than our very bad contract

Sabres need RHD and have alot of depth on wings and LHD. Skinner allows sabres to bring up rookies and not feel obligated to but skinner ahead of younger players. With picks we would get at deadline and the picks we have sabres should have one of the best prospect pools in NHL even if they bring up all the rookies i brought up. The sabres will have alot of cap space to take on bad contracts for picks/ prospects to improve the team.

Counter proposal:
Jack Quinn for Ryan Merkley and a 2nd?
both are young 1st round picks Merkley would add a Power play QB and give you offensive upside, but Quinn is clearly the better prospect. hence the 2nd back.
this might fit for both teams but I don't know a lot about Quinn TBH.
Your thoughts?

Nah Skinner is better than Karlsson, younger, and scores goals which has typically been the problem with the Sabres. No desire to acquire a more expensive, older, and injury prone player while also giving up a prospect with good top 4 potential

Quinn is far better than Merkley at offense AND defense. The 2nd is not the gap between the two.

Quinn and Merkley are different players. yes Quin would be better offensively as Quin is a RW and Merkley is a RD.
Merkley is a future power play QB who can make a team better but his D is suspect, however he isn't as bad as I thought in the D zone, just look at that buffalo sharks game a few games back.

I only counter offered because you guys were looking at trading a wing for a D man in this ACGM and I thought this was a better fit than the initial post.
what would you counter with? we badly need a RW for our top 6.

Ryan Johnson is capable of playing RHD and skinner is blocking no one.

what does Buffalo need most? and who would you be willing to part with that’s a RW RH shot?

We don’t have any right hand shooting wingers available. We need all of them because we don’t really have any. As it is we converted Thompson from wing to center.

ok so Buffalo just isn’t a good trade partner for us then!
good luck i feel like if you guys work hard the next two drafts you’ll be better sooner than later.

You need to ignore Little.
He and Shibbal know everything and facts will never convince them other wise.
You were trying to have an intelligent conversation only to met with an insult.
As stated above currently the ONLY top six RH RW under contract is Tuch.
I suppose Thompson could move the wing if Krebs pans out.
If you were interested with LW on the other hand Buffalo may be convinced to move one, but you have already stated that does not help the Sharks.
Merkley would fit into the Sabre time line, on the other hand check out Laaksonen performance in Rochester.
He is only a year older than Merkley and has 24 AHL pts in 39 games. I think he could be Buffalo's next RHD.
I am thrilled that Buffalo has not brought him into the NHL look what they did to Ristolainen bringing him up too soon.

i like you your logical on prospects! sharks have ruined tons of D prospects bringing them up too soon. sharks have been smart with Merkley taking their time with him! they did the same with Dahlin and it’s paying off well! this is also why the sharks are being patient with Eklund.

I would say you are very optimistic about Merkleys potential. We already have 2 power play QBs on D with Dahlin and Power. I don’t have a counter because the Sabres are in no position to trade away forward prospects. If you need wingers, Montreal would be the team to trade with.
