Description
Potential trade ideas. not sure they work for the other team. I'm fully open to hear counter offers but these are the players I see not in the sharks future plans.
other players I would consider trading are
Knyzhov (he is a really solid LD and I don't want to trade him, but we have a ton of players who can replace him waiting for a chance)
Nieto, Cogliano, Balcers Barabanov and Reimer (all should have decent value and wouldn't mind keeping them but if the right trade comes I would consider)
Vlassic Kane (no one wants them but if someone did I I would jump and even offer retention and/or a sweetener or two)

To have that kind of return on Hertl, an extension is needed

I have a strong belief whoever trades for Hertl will either have confidence they can resign him or would pre negotiate the extension as part of the trade.
I HATE losing Hertl but our cup window looks like it will open up around the 24/25 and 25/26 and Hertl's Prime is right now and by the time we are Legit cup contenders he will be towards the later part of his prime. and this would hinder his ability to win a cup.

Rangers wont go after Hertl. Its too much for a guy we cant afford to resign.

you guys should be able to resign him, the numbers would be tight but he wants a shorter term deal to keep his options open.
3-4 year deal allows him to still get another decent term deal and allows you guys some flexibility.

So you’re expecting Hertl to have a better return then Eichel?
What was the last pending UFA to be traded at the deadline that’s fetched two players drafted in the first round, plus a 1st and 2nd draft pick?

That's an overpay for Hertl. I can see Chytil, a 1st and maybe a lower level prospect or mid round pick.

The problem is short term deals usually dont come cheap. We still need to resign Kakko (who wont be too costly, but it still matters). Then whats left to resign LAF and Miller? And gotta figure trading Chytil opens the door for Barron who we would need to resign that year too.

You do make a lot of sense! But Hertl would be a top line center for you guys and you cant skimp at 1st or 2nd line C, those cost money!!!
but I get what your saying this is the tricky part of being a GM planning to win now while managing the cap to win in the future and make sure there are spots for your prospects to try and make the team.
it's super easy on here but in real life its almost impossible which is why team fail and other surprise and GM move a lot!!!
none of us on her have even 20% of the full story and the thought process it takes to be a real GM or we would all be actual GM's but I always appreciate constructive criticism and I really enjoy reasonable counter offers to help me weigh my thoughts and proposals!!!

At the start of the year, it seemed most thought Chytil and a 1st would be a fair price tag for Hertl. Gotta figure he will command something around 8m per year (maybe more on a short contract since youre only paying for prime years). After resigning Zib and Fox, theres not much money left. Theyll have to toe the line and hope they can extend Kakko, LAF and Miller with bridge deals to keep the cap numbers down for a bit. They also have to worry about other teams tossing out offer sheets knowing how tight against the cap the Rangers will be.

Closest comps to that package that come to mind:

1. 2019 Taylor Hall trade: Merkley, Bahl, Schnarr, 1st, 3rd
2. 2018 EK65 trade: Tierney, Norris, DeMelo, 1st, 2nd, 2nd
3. 2010 Kovalchuk trade: Bergfors (recent 1st), Oduya (top-4 d-man), Cormier (recent 2nd), 1st, 2nd

Problem is, all three of those guys had a bit more pedigree, and all had won major trophies in recent seasons.

totally get what your saying but Centers usually draw the best return, and Hertl is by far the best available C if he ends up on the trade market. Chytil season has weakened his return a bit hence the add of Krav who if i’m not mistaken has asked to be traded. the 2nd could be negated but Hertl
would command a lot in return at this point!

What are you looking to get for Meier, specifically from the Blues?

What about Tarasenko, a prospect, and a 1st? It’d probably be a 3 way deal as I don’t see Tarasenko waiving for San Jose

Honestly sharks are NOT trading Meier unless a stupid offer comes across the board. like Vlasic & Meier for a 1st.
he is literally our best player this year.

I’m working on a thread with the deal so I’d be happy to hear what y’all think.
