Posiion wise, it doesn't make sense for the Devils. They have an abundance of forwards and forward prospects. Hughes, Nico, Bratt, Zacha, Sharangovich, Mercer, Holtz, Foote, and the list goes on
RD prospects, they are very thin. Trading Severson would leave Hamilton as the only RD for next year and possibly the future

So Devils decline

There may be a small window to trade for Severson between end of this season and July 1st. If they don’t immediately come to terms on an extension and still have plenty of time to find a replacement RD2 before start of 2022/23. That would be the moment for this type of trade.

I'd actually consider this, extension's a little steep but I think value favours NJD here.
Would also present an opportunity to flip a winger for a defenceman, Zacha for Girard anybody?
