Unfortunately, if TOR gives up those two picks, they literally do not have a draft pick until the 7th round. Not great asset management.

If those picks can be pushed to future years, then yeah I could see them biting on something like this.

Sharks aren’t trading Meier, though not sure Colorado would do that anyway. Simek will get less return, if any. Reimer I would want a better return for with how he has been playing.

Avs wouldnt do that. Meier is good but hes essentially a UFA in 2023 cause nobody is going to give him his 10M QO. Newhook > Merkley too

Dubas has shown he'd only pay a price like that for a player with term.

Can't see them pay that for a pure rental.

SJS
Ritchie, Nick
Amirov, Rodion
2022 1st round pick (TOR)
2022 2nd round pick (TOR)
TOR
Hertl, Tomas
Additional Details:
50% retained

No team is giving that for Hertl without an extension, so the 1st must have a stipulation that he resigns with the destination team. The retained salary has value, but it's almost in SJS's best interest to retain to make sure the deal is completed, or find a different trade partner.

Conditional Picks

"One other change as part of the new CBA is the elimination of a certain type of conditional pick. In the past, sending a player from one team to the other could have a conditional pick attached to it should Player X re-sign with the team he has been traded to. Now, that will no longer be legal under the new terms."

White and Labanc are so similar all told (eerily so even) the difference shouldn't be JBD but maybe Mete or someone who's still quite a good asset

Yea his contract was backloaded and structured so that his salary in 2022-2023 is 10M which means his team needs to send him a 1 year $10M qualifying offer in order to keep his RFA rights. If they dont offer him that then he can go directly to UFA

When you have an overwhelmingly crucial multiple year window of prime contention using all your picks to bolster that is good asset management tho

The cupboards should be bare

The big four is a special thing

Toronto lucky to be able to be awful too

If 2025-2030 is a mess then so be it

Thanks for the info. When we believe we know everything and can't still learn from others is when we stop thinking. I appreciate the responses, even if your first response was extremely brief. Just adding the word, anymore, would have helped. Thanks for the info, regardless of how you delivered it.

As for the trade, no one is giving that for Hertl without an extension, still applies.

Well, unless they fire everyone from Shanny down, some will remain in the organization.

The prospect cupboard is getting bare as it is.

No capspace, plus no decent prospects, is a recipe for a very small contention window.

So, the move really doesn't make sense.

I'm hoping any GM would be smart enough to make deals based on more then just saving their ass.
