If San Jose is willing to move Hertl I think that is a very good deal for them. Well done, except I would doubt Samsonov gets you Fabbri but I have been wrong many times before.

I value Sammy at a 2nd + and I value Fabbri at a 2nd +. Sammy is also a RFA and I believe wings don’t have any goalies under contract after next year. Capitals might have to add something but I think they have similar values.

I would take a chance on Samsonov for that. Maybe include that Arizona trade to Detroit for added value.

I do think that is an over pay for Hertl though, I wouldn't be sending Lapierre.

Bc Lappy has a much higher value and Protas hasn’t really shown anything in the NHL yet

I think he’s going to be great but Capitals have Kuzy Backstrom and McMichael for the next 4 years… he doesn’t really have a spot that he can immediately fill. I’d rather win one more cup and have Ovi break the record. Then be terrible and build in the draft

I don't disagree with this logic at all.

Going all in for the Cup means getting consistent goaltending. That would be priority one over anything else. I'd sooner roll the dice on Samsonov taking us to a Cup than Greiss or Vanecek.

Interesting bc Samsonov is either dog water or great. Vanecek is consistently solid. I’d take consistency over a guy that plays well every other game. Samsonov is talented but lacks any type of drive. Guys like that aren’t winners and probably never will be.

I don’t think Vanecek can play at a Cup winning level. Samsonov has the raw talent to do so and looked spectacular in the three games he got against Boston last year. I’d roll the dice with him
