If Vancouver does rebuild do it right

Created by: Reason
Team: 2021-22 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 17, 2021
Published: Nov. 17, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not saying Vancouver should commit to a rebuild, yet, however if they finally do have a change of course they should do it with both feet in. The end goal should be a Stanley Cup, not the playoffs.

If they do commit to a rebuild all the players being moved, expect maybe Boeser, will be out of their prime by the time Vancouver is able to compete. If Boeser is still in his prime he will be near the end of it. Garland is kept for now as he is a already a fan favourite and helps form a respectable first line. EP, QH, NH, VP are all kept as the are young enough to build around going forward. All other roster players would be available for the right price.

Taking an approach like this may be worth considering. These types of moves would restock Vancouver's depleted prospect pool and add a much need infusion of young possible impact players to their roster. It would also give them around 16 million to add players in the offseason.
Trades
1.
VAN
  1. McTavish, Mason
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (ANA)
ANA
  1. Horvat, Bo
Additional Details:
Horvat seems like he would be a great fit with the Ducks.
He's a leader, faceoff monster and plays his best in big games.

If he's a bit to old at 26 for the Ducks, trade could be made to another team for a similar package.
2.
VAN
  1. Turcotte, Alex
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (LAK)
Additional Details:
Not totally sure of Turcottes value. If he's an A prospect, him and a 2nd seem like fair value for a still young Boeser.
3.
VAN
  1. Wallstedt, Jesper [Reserve List]
  2. 2022 1st round pick (MIN)
MIN
  1. Demko, Thatcher
Additional Details:
If your just going to look at Demko's currnt save percentage, might want to skip commenting. He is a legitimate high end number 1, he is playing behind by far the worst PK and defense in the NHL. Seems like a good fit for a Wild team that could be competitors for some time.

Rangers are done with JT Miller. We'll take him back only when this price drops.

Seen some NYR AGM's with similar, some even higher priced, trades for Miller recently. The majority of comments in them seemed to have a fair amount of positive responses, that is where the idea came from.

Might be waiting a long time with the way he's playing.

Hasn't been "playing" since his first year in VAN. It's just stuck with Nucks fans to carry this imaginary narrative he's a 70 point player.

We can assess team impact on G sv% btw

Vancouver just slightly below average by HD chances against in the demko era so... yeah... maybe there's some more nuanced data to support that but

He's probably just solid 🤷‍♂️

Ducks probably don't just a 1.5 years of Horvat. Horvat to more of a contender would seem to make more sense. Wild have Talbot and really can't afford Demko next season.

He’s been a PPG since he came to Vancouver lmao. 136 points in 138 games. He has 18 points in 16 games so far putting him in the top ten for points in the nhl so far on a terrible Canucks team. You need to do some research before you make foolish remarks online

Common. You usually make pretty good posts but that's garbage.

Simple math:
First year VAN: 72 points, on pace for 85.
Second year VAN: 46 points on pace for 71.
Third (current) year VAN: 18 points on pace for 92.

That's a good point, especially with where they are as a team. Would have to come with an extension, or the trade could be made to another team for a similar return.

Horvat being not overly young and a UFA-2 though

I mean mctavish isn't really a 3rd overall either

Weird reach in a weak draft but, either way yeah

Well maybe for McDavid or MacKinnon ….

His first season he was basically exclusively a winger and last season he was pretty much always a center. This year he's been flip-flopping between both positions

I can tell you right now we definitely dont need a LW and the Rangers refused to trade Schneider for Eichel who Id say, at peak, is a better player. Thats all you need to know about this deal.

Furthermore, it seems people, including Sharks fans, are content with a return of a 1st round pick and Chytil for Hertl who Id say is better than Miller at a much nicer trade. Wheres the incentive for this trade?

Okay. Fair enough. I still feel him going back to NYR wouldn't result the stats for us but I guess thats a separate conversation.

No I get it. I think I speak with a little grain of salt because JT Miller as a Ranger was subpar compared to how well he has done in VAN. It's basically hard to gauge his value because of how disappointing he was at times as a Ranger.

Proving my point.

No it's not, your point was not factual and completely baseless. Miller has been playing at a 70+ point pace ever since coming to Vancouver and he's been great in the faceoff dot
