Could it happen VAN side

Description
This is mostly for fun. But if NJD and VAN continue on their paths this season, could this trade happen in the offseason to try to shake things up for VAN?

VAN sheds some long term cap, which I didn't use here because who knows what they'd want to do... but with a 23 man roster, they've got 11.8mil left over, all the while getting younger in the process. They haven't had breathing room for a few years. I think it could be worth it for them. Obviously they sign other pieces instead of using the depth players and scratches I inserted here (from their minors). Of course it would suck to lose Hughes, but you get Ty Smith in the process who could potentially turn out to be a similar player.

Again, this is mostly for fun, but I think it does have some benefits for each team

Trades
VAN
  1. Graves, Ryan
  2. Hischier, Nico
  3. Smith, Ty
  4. 2022 1st round pick (NJD)
Additional Details:
VAN sheds a lot of cap and gets a long term center option to play with Elias (I understand EP40 is listed as center, but take a look at his faceoff numbers and JT Miller's faceoff numbers), a younger and cheaper offensive defensemen to replace Quinn, and arguably a better stay at home D in Graves to replace Myers. Again, younger and cheaper. They also get a 1st round pick for their troubles. If that is "too much", replace the 1st with some more prospects.
NJD
  1. Hughes, Quinn
  2. Miller, J.T.
  3. Myers, Tyler
Additional Details:
NJD complete the Holy Trinity, and snag JT Miller to help Dawson Mercer on faceoffs. Myers becomes the Subban replacement, essentially.

When in the nuts did a near PPG young defensemen not mean "all that much"? He's the best player in this trade and it's not remotely close... over the last several years, JT Miller has been outscoring Nico as well, and he leads the penalty kill so it's not like JT is only about points

He’s saying it’s not necessary to keep making trades with the intent to get all three Hughes brothers on the same team. I agree because it’s just not going to happen until their UFA years

So it would kind of break down like:

Hughes for Smith and Nico
Miller for First
Myers for Graves

The Hughes deal is fairish, NJ gives up a lot but Hughes is by far the best player.

The Miller deal is pretty bad for the Canucks (assuming the first is in the 20's because NJ would be playoff bound w/ this roster)

The Myers deal is pretty bad for the Devil's.

If you say the Canucks get a worse return on the Miller deal for the cost of dumping Myers it's fairish I guess.

I would group together Myers and Miller for the 1st and Graves if we were to break it down like that. But yes, the big draw here is the ~12million cap space for VAN to make a free agent splash. They've been at the cap for a few years now, this finally gives them some freedom to shake things up even further than this trade

Yeah, it's pretty close to fair value I think.

Smith and Nico for Hughes???

That's a huge overpayment

Hughes has somehow become extremely under rated. He's still in the Makar/Heiskanen tier of young defenseman.

You are trading away Quinn, who has value, Miller has value, but then throwing in the trash heap that is the Tyler Myers contract.

In breaking it down, I would not trade Nico for Miller straight up, nor give you Smith, Graves and a 1st for Quinn while also taking on Myers. I'd rather have the depth and not just keep trying to get all the Hughes. Also, Ty is Jack's best friend and roommate, so it's not going to be something that makes him thrilled anyway.

And Smith is right below that tier
Difference between Hughes and Smith isn't Nico
