It won’t happen but I disagree that they would be eaten alive. They are both good skaters who can evade pressure + make a good 1st pass. Dobson is good positionally and they would spend most of the time in the ozone anyways

Chara is better than Aho. Not sure why the fanbase is so infatuated with 25 - he directly caused two goals by himself against Tampa

I disagree. Could just be me but i dont think aho is great at getting the puck out. But way more worrisome than that is the fact that this pair wont win a single puck battle. And if they are out there against a physical line (think our 4th line) theyll be stuck out there for 2+ minutes. Pelech is the picture perfect partner for dobson ive always thought and the limited theyve had yogether has backed that up. Its amazing the difference in dobsons play when he has a legit nhl caliber partner. I also want salo to have a solid partner. Putting salo and mayfield makes a lot of sense as well. Salo is responsible and good with the puck as opposed to mayfield who has a hard time getting pucks out. Having scottys physicality and toughness wont put too much pressure on salo in the d zone. As for the 3rd pair the number 1 concern i have about aho is his ability to win pucks along the boards. It just so happens to be that andy greene somehow, is one of the best in the league at winning those pucks however he just turns the puck over bc his puck skills are terrible, thats why he gets trapped a lot. But putting aho with greene can help aho as well as not have to play greene for so many minutes.

Chara without pulock carrying him will be a trainwreck

Aho isn’t anything special but he can at least he’s decent offensively. It’s safe to say Chara is the worst defenseman in the NHL and I don’t think there’s a close second, he’s been that bad this season

Aho can skate the puck out with possession and he makes some solid stretch passes, aho sometimes looks overmatched in the Dzone , but he actually does win his fair share of puck battles, same with Dobson. They’re just not physical defenseman. I can understand the concern but I think it’s worth a shot

You’re right regarding Dobson. When he plays with pelech and Pulock he looks great, but he’s afraid to make a mistake with Greene/chara because they are not mobile enough to cover for him. I wish Trotz would give him a permanent partner who isn’t a pylon

Thats one of the reasons in the other thread i wanted lindell. He seems like someone who could let dobson do his thing and help him not slow him down.

I feel like Dobson needs a two way D, not a one dimensional DFD. Dobson usually doesn’t play well with one dimensional D. They should put him with pelech and have Salo play with Pulock when everyone is healthy

I was thinking that myself but the issue with that is then we are still breaking up 3-6 which imo is a bad idea. I think salo mayfield is a good pair and each guy fits the other one. As for dobson youre right lindell isnt ideal and another pelech would be great, i just dont see anyone that fits that description and can play tough minutes, that is available.

Breaking up pelech and Pulock is not ideal but I think it benefits both Salo and Dobson so it might be worth it. Salo - Dobson would be great but Trotz would never do it

So i was thinking about what you said and i found a few guys that might fit that description and might be available either at the TDL or in the summer. Wondering what your thoughts are.

Ryan Mcdonagh - his contract scares me as does his nmc
Brian Dumoulin - he would be my 1st target out of everyone
Ryan Graves - i doubt hes available but he wont cost too much
Joel Edmundson - if MTL decides like PIT might to retool
Vladislav Gavrikov - 4 of these guys are in the metro so idk
Brady Skjei - a reclamation project who played very well in NYR, he might get an asset with him or would be very cheap to acquire. The issue for me is if he busts he has another year after next on his deal.

Gavrikov would be my 1st target, very solid two way D. Dumoulin is pretty much an older version of Gavrikov , if the pens make him available Isles should be interested but I’m not sure the pens would trade him to the isles unless it’s an overpay.

Graves is alright, he’s having a tough start with NJ. I’m starting to think his numbers were inflated by playing with makar and girard lol

I’d rather stay away from Mcdonagh but if they take Bailey I might consider it lol.
