Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
DAL
  1. Kapanen, Kasperi
  2. Marino, John
  3. Puustinen, Valtteri
  4. 2022 1st round pick (PIT)
  5. 2024 3rd round pick (PIT)
PIT
  1. Gurianov, Denis
  2. Klingberg, John
  3. 2023 5th round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
Pens PP is currently weakest in league. This move helps them a lots in that regard.
2.
DAL
  1. Kravtsov, Vitali
  2. Pajuniemi, Lauri
  3. 2022 1st round pick (NYR)
NYR
  1. Dellandrea, Ty
  2. Pavelski, Joe ($3,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Adding Pavelski improves NYR's TOP6 to one of the best in the league. Rangers bolster their offense for the forthcoming playoff run.
3.
DAL
  1. Kempný, Michal
  2. 2023 1st round pick (WSH)
WSH
  1. Radulov, Alexander ($3,125,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Helps the Caps create a lethal Russian line, also bolsters their lineup for the playoff run.
4.
DAL
  1. Bailey, Josh
  2. 2022 5th round pick (NYI)
NYI
  1. Suter, Ryan
  2. Tufte, Riley
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
NYI is lacking a 2nd pair LHD (that Trotz would be willing to use on that role). Suter fills the bill, he's decent enough for that role, and it was rumored Isles was interested in him during the summer.
5.
DAL
  1. Hägg, Robert
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (BUF)
BUF
  1. Faksa, Radek
  2. Shea, Ryan
  3. 2022 6th round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
I reckon BUF might be interested in a decent defensive center with some term left on his contract.
6.
DAL
  1. 2022 3rd round pick (FLA)
FLA
  1. Holtby, Braden
  2. Raffl, Michael
Additional Details:
FLA gathers some depth assets for their playoff run.
7.
DAL
  1. 2022 4th round pick (ANA)
ANA
  1. Sekera, Andrej
  2. 2023 6th round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
If ANA keeps up their great form and they might consider adding on the deadline, maybe acquiring a depth D comes to question.
8.
DAL
  1. 2023 7th round pick (SJS)
SJS
  1. Comeau, Blake
Additional Details:
Basically future considerations. He's gone through waivers so there's no problem in assigning him to AHL should he not work.

The Pens PP is the worst in the league because we've been without half our lineup until two games ago and guess what, we scored a PP goal.

That trade is awful for the Pens. Huge overpayment. Puustinen is going to be a solid middle-six winger and you're throwing in a 1st and a 3rd? Heck no. Marino may not have the offense of Klingberg but he's a legit #3 dman who's still developing.

Gurianov and Kap are basically a wash, so we're sending you Marino, Puustinen, 1st and 3rd for Klingberg and a 5th? Nope.

Well that PIT trade is there to provide an example. Now it's about filling the blanks. Who is Caps' own Kapanen? How about Marino? Do they even have equivalents? Does the money work? Many questions around it.

You're asking for Marino, Puustinen, 1st and 3rd for Klingberg and Klingberg is a rental. That's just a terrible deal. If Klingberg still had term and the Pens were interested, if we're sending Marino, the most you should really get on top of that is a 2nd, but he's a rental. This is a very lopsided deal. Marino is tracking as a top-pairing two-way dman.

I gotta disagree with that a bit.

Value wise you might get close, but those guys are not the ones a rebuilding team are targeting. Kapanen and Marino are 25 and 24 respectively, with one of them being a RFA next year with his future contract still being a question mark, and one of them is signed to a favorable 6-year deal as a young asset. Meanwhile Mantha is 27 with three years left on his current deal, and Orlov's 30 with two years left. You could say these guys are at or past their prime, and their next contracts could very well be their last. Players like this, even if they were good players, are just not the kind of guys a rebuilding team is going to target, unless the deal involves another player in the same situation or the player is included to the trade as a cap dump. Rather these kind of players are the ones a rebuilding team would trade for younger ones.

Looking at the Caps roster, they simply do not have players like Kapanen or Marino right now. With the exceptions of Daniel Sprong and Dennis Cholowski, all of their players are 27+ and signed to long-term contracts or their best prospects able to play full time NHL. Therefore for a rebuilding team the best WSH has to offer are prospects, picks and cap dumps.

Considering the factors, if we were to form a trade involving the pieces talked about, it'd probably look something like this. I'm very open to suggestions and/or ideas.

Washington Capitals
F Alexander Radulov ($3,125,000 salary retained)
D John Klingberg ($2,125,000 salary retained)
F Denis Gurianov
G Braden Holtby

Total cap: around $10-11M.

Dallas Stars
Connor McMichael
Aliaksei Protas
Justin Schultz (has value, but must be added to make the cap work, and with only one year left he makes the most sense for a rebuilding team)
Michal Kempny (cap dump)
Carl Hagelin (cap dump)
2022 1st rd pick (WSH)
2023 1st rd pick (WSH)
2023 2nd rd pick (WSH)
2024 3rd rd pick (WSH)

Total cap: around $10M

Capitals send:
Justin Shultz
Hags
Kempny
Eller
Protas
2022 first
2024 first
2023 second
2022 third
2023 fifth
Stars send:
Klingberg no retain
Joe Pavs 50% retain
Denis G
Holtby 50%

It's basically the same deal I put up there, only with different picks and one great difference, that being the replacement of McMichael with Eller+5th, which likely is something that would kill the deal.

My suggestion for now is constructed as

Klingberg half-retained = McMichael+Hagelin+1st
Radulov half-retained = Kempny+1st
Gurianov = Protas+Schultz+2nd
Holtby = 3rd

I'm interested to hear how yours is constructed.

I'd personally want something more decisive. In your current deal the picks are clearly the most valuable pieces, I'd also want an asset of greater value too.

If the Stars commit to a rebuild wouldnt it make sense to try and move Seguin. I'd say Benn too, but I don't think anyone wants that contract

Sure, but I don't see them waiving their NMCs and leaving one of the league's tax havens, nor do I see much interest in them from other teams with those cap hits.

Hendrix Lappy ,Hags and a 1st For klingberg 50%
I would rather have pavs 50% which would cost probably Leason kempny and a first maybe
Gurianov would be Shultz, 2nd, Eller , and 4th
Holtby is a third

That's fair. I'd probably take that offer of yours. Lapierre, Leason, two firsts, whatever we gain for Eller and Schultz after trading them again could bring a really solid haul of futures for us.

You can use them too. You can find them from the smilies icon, and then select logos.

But yeah, the deal would be something like

Washington Capitals
F Joe Pavelski ($3,500,000 RS)
D John Klingberg ($2,125,000 RS)
F Denis Gurianov
G Braden Holtby

Dallas Stars
Hendrix Lapierre
Brett Leason
Lars Eller
Justin Schultz
Carl Hagelin
Michal Kempny
2022 1st rd pick (WSH)
2024 1st rd pick (WSH)
2023 2nd rd pick (WSH)
2022 3rd rd pick (WSH)
