Wings decline. A+ prospect and multiple picks for petry isn't gonna work.

I don't think any one says yes to these trades.

Maybe Nashville takes this If Weber wants to retire they put him on LTIR and pay him the remainder of his contract. If Weber just retires then they get hit with a recapture penalty of $4.9M for the next 5 seasons.

Here comes the hordes of delusional Habs fans

1) Jeff Petry isn't returning Simon Edvinsson, I prefer to avoid looking at Det's 1st and a 2nd in there too : AWFUL proposal

2) Allen for Mike Smith : Edmonton wouldn't do that, so let's say you remove these parts...

Ben freakin Chiarot isn't returning a 1st PLUS Dylan Holloway and a 4th... Maybe a 1st if the market for physical D-man is good

3) Not as bad but doubt the Flames sacrifice a 1st for this. Lucic only has 1 year left, Gallagher will have 5 and they know the last few years might be a pure cap dump

4) This could work if the Islanders weren't having such a bad start. Lou is not crazy and will not trade his first : too risky

Everyone easily declines and it's not close... the only one that could even happen, would be if Weber said he was going to hang them up, Nashville could grab him to avoid cap recapture and pay for it, so they could LTIR him instead.

I doubt they need to pay that much for him though. Probably like a fourth of that was the situation.

Holloway and McLeod will be competing for the 3c in Edmonton next Autumn and Smith will probably play out his contract and then get an offer to remain within the organization in a different capacity.

Giving up a pick or 2 to put Weber LTIR is a lot better than having $4.9M taken off your cap for the next 5 seasons

True, but why would weber retire? Just ride out LTIR for the rest of the contract. I think he would make more money, and if Montreal pushed him to retire I think they would just give him up for free or not much to Nashville just so you don't have that team completely hate you for years. They could hold that cap hit ad ransom and try and gain some picks but I don't think that would be worth destroying a relationship with that team and also losing respect from all the other GMs.

Just checked out Chiarot's "rels", which compare him to his teammates.

CF% rel - negative every single year of his career
SF% rel - negative 6 of the last 7 seasons
GF% rel - negative last 3 seasons and 6 of 8
xGF% rel - negative 6 of last 7
SCF% rel - negative 7 of 8
HDCF% rel - negative 6 of 7

These are not good numbers, in fact they are quite bad. Worse, they're largely caused by poor defensive metrics - he allows more shots against than average of his teammates, he allows more goals against, more scoring chances and more high danger corsi. It isn't due to zone starts either, he generally gets about 50% offensive zone starts.

He had one good playoff run where the refs allowed him to hack and whack opponents at will, and Habs fans think he's suddenly a 1st pairing defenseman who is worth a whole ton. Genuinely he's a replacement level guy and has been his entire career.

Actually, the results from the past 2 playoff runs are worse than his regular season results: http://naturalstattrick.com/playerreport.php?fromseason=20212022&thruseason=20212022&stype=3&sit=5v5&stdoi=oi&rate=r&v=p&playerid=8475279.php?fromseason=20212022&thruseason=20212022&stype=2&sit=5v5&stdoi=oi&rate=r&v=p&playerid=8475279
