Skinner is a worse player with more

Term

$

Clauses

Why would a frugal franchise do that deal

I mean why would they sign RJo initially but

Another story for another time there 😉

Johansen and Skinner are far from equal in value. NSH less than politely declines.

I honestly think every team not named the Sabres declines these deals.

Buffalo makes out like bandits on all of these. Hinostroza probably the closest. Butcher doesn't look like an nhl defenseman, eakin has been somewhat better this year, but hes probably only worth a late round pick if we retain (he has been incredibly bad until recently). Skinner is one of the worst contracts in the league, I have no idea who botterill was negotiating against when he handed him 9m per, the one saving grace with Skinner, is his buyout is downright OK after two more years. Even still, Nashville isn't giving us a less awful player just because Skinner has a decent buyout.

Is Butcher that bad? He was good a couple of years back?

Yup he's good

Any small D who doesn't put up huge points gets seen as 1/2 as good as they actually are unfortunately it seems like "big steady D" is the last fallacy to die

Here's waiting for it to do so cheers

Haha you think Cody eakin is a positive rate, much less 2nd round pick? Minnesota says no. Cody eakin is a negative that Buffalo would pay a team to Take him on

Personally, I think Skinner and Duchene are of similar value generally (since they’re both wings for same term) but Duche’s popped off the season and skinny, while bouncing back, still isn’t great. The contracts are certainly more similar than Joey and Skinny, but Nashville would want to get an asset in return for Duchene-skinner trade. Johansen is completely off the table since Skinner can’t play center.

I have to disagree with you about them being of similar value. Aside from Duchene being the overall better player - in my opinion - the contracts aren't equal. Skinner makes more than Duchene, and is signed for an extra year. Duchene can also play center which brings more value too.

But yeah, Skinner's term and cap hit ($9M for six years, compared to $8M for four years) is so much more than Johansen's that NSH doesn't entertain a trade involving the two.
