I always wonder what is going through peoples minds that makes them think “Exactly what the Oilers need is a 34 year old goalie with a big contract”.

The contract is an issue, but with heavy retention (and recovered from recent issues), it does make sense. You have to consider that Price is 5 years younger than their current number one as well.
Obviously it would be better to have a younger, cheaper, and better goaltender, but few are on Price's level in the playoffs and younger, cheaper goaltenders don't have that track record or experience if they are available.

This is as funny as it is bad.

You think Mike Smith is their starter with how well Koskinen has been playing? Yeah Smith is injured and when he's healthy at this rate, he won't be their starter.

10.5 million for years to come. There is no factor that needs to be said. Go ahead and retain 50% and you still won't get a good package.

We both know Koskinen is not their starter. He's playing well, for sure, but whether he keeps the position and is their go-to for the playoffs, remains to be seen. It's a risk which may well pay off.

Who do you honestly want in the net when playoffs come around? Price @ $5.5M or Koskinen @ $4.5M?
All I said was that it makes sense. You can debate value and whether it's a move worth making, but anyone who suggests they would prefer Koskinen over Price when it matters, is fooling themselves.

Awful exchange. This is the killing of a standing organization. Why do we need Price with his difficult contract, in any case. Moreover, we have Skinner, look how he plays, the future number of the team, it's obvious. Chiarot is nice, but it's just a rental. Giving the first two rounds for this package is akin to the murder of the Edmonton Oilers organization, this exchange will throw the organization down for several years, and cross out all the team alignments of recent years.

Thinking short term I can see Edmonton fans thinking this helps, but down the line, Price's contract will cripple the team.
