TDL if sharks decide to retool

Created by: glarson17
Team: 2021-22 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 22, 2021
Published: Nov. 22, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is if the team is not contending, which I expect them to not be, and Doug Wilson tries to acquire assets.

It will be too costly to move Kane at this moment, so just keep him this season. Maybe in the off-season he can be moved for a more reasonable price or bought out etc.

I would like them to move on from Simek but they’ve tried to move him for a year now and it hasn’t happened.

I would see the sharks asking for a 1st and Schneider at least in a trade for Hertl.

I mean, it's what the Rangers seem to need most. They do not have center depth... I believe if the Rangers are in a top 3 spot by the deadline, ownership has them make the splash.

Honestly I see the sharks moving Hertl for less to a team that cannot resign him as a rental then resigning him this offseason.
we can then use the pieces we got for his rental to improve our depth and rebuild!

Except that 3 team trade to clause is going to make that very difficult. What if Hertl submits his 3 team list and it is VGK, TBL and COL? VGK and TBL don’t have assets or cap space, does that put SJS in a position to potentially lose him for nothing in the off season or accept a Jost 1st rd pick centric offer that is low?

Hertl would be open to more if the deal works for everyone.

There’s no way the Rangers can afford Labanc’s contract long term. Especially if they believed they couldn’t afford a long term Pavel Buchnevich contract.

Yeah but that's true of every "name player" that's thrown around to fill the RW hole. At least Labanc will have 2 years left at a reasonable cap hit?

That's why every name player you see thrown around on this site won't be the long term RW option for the Rangers.
Also disagree that Labanc's cap hit is reasonable. He's a little overpaid to me.

If you put him in your top 6, he would be a 50 point player. $4.7 mil for a 50 point guys isn’t bad especially with the contracts that get handed out now.

His career high is 56 and I really don't know if he'll return to that level with better teammates.

He scored 40 in 17-18 and 56 in 18-19. Put him with offensive players and he will produce.

Changed the comment after lol

The last two seasons he has averaged .47 ppg and .51 ppg on very bad sharks teams while playing up and down the lineup. He absolutely can produce more with better teammates.

I didn’t change it after reading your reply. I realized I misread the stats about a minute after submitting. My apologies for that error. That said, I’m still skeptical about this. It seems like a pretty high risk move for my Rangers, even though it could definitely work.

Too much for a rental in Hertl. Not getting our top two prospects and a first.

True-ish, but only two are arguably higher than those two and neither of those should be prospects by the end of the year. Can't really consider them 'graduated' as yet (although Byram would probably be close if he hadn't been injured) but I tend to only really consider prospects as non-roster players aside from short term call ups. Byram is, or would be a bona fide roster player but for injury. Newhook may well be by the end of the season and as it stands is a roster player. As Byram is pretty much untouchable, and both he and Newhook would be out of the conversation in such a deal I pretty much figured people would understand what I meant by top two prospects but there we go......explained it for you.

That Colorado trade is ludicrous. Basically three first round picks for a rental. Eichel didn't even get that.
